I heard my phone 'ding' I look up from my work and lean across my wooden kitchen table that's covered in papers. I unlocked my phone, creasing my brows to see my own number appear. I look at the text that was there:

"Come to the diner across the street. ASAP"

'is this a joke?' I thought I looked at the number again, sighing I decided it was worth a shot. I stood up from the table, taking my navy blue leather jacket from the hanger, then heading out the door.

When I came to the diner, I went to the counter and order a strawberry-banana smoothie. Then taking my seat at a booth by a window. I waited there for a couple of minutes, and waited, but nobody came. Starting to become impatient, I grabbed my drink, walking out the door I bumped into someone wearing a black hoodie, "oh, sorry" I said "Alex" said the stranger. I stopped in my tracks, the stranger took my arm and pulled me to the back booth. "Ow, ok, who in the world are you? And why are you dragging me here?" I asked the stranger then pulled back their hoodie and I stood shocked. The stranger had red, shoulder-length hair, and emerald colour eyes. She looked just like me, but older. Maybe about Mid 30s or something. But she had a long, thin scar running down her neck.

"Alex, I know this is strange, but you need to listen." She demanded, gesturing to the booth across from her.

I sat down in the booth, keeping my eyes trained on her, watching her as she takes her hoodie off, I saw the burn marks all over her arms and hands.

"Their everywhere" I looked at her confused, "the burn marks, their everywhere" I made a face, like I was saying "oh," "I'm sorry"

"Don't be, it wasn't your fault"

"How and why are you here?" I asked before taking a sip of my drink.

"It's a long story"

"Well, I have-" 'ding' I was interrupted by my phone, I pulled it out of my pocket and saw that I got a text from my best friend, Melody.

"No, you don't" she stood up from the booth, I did the same and followed her out.

"Wait! Can you at least me why-" I walked out the door, and nobody was there, "or not, that's fine"

I made my way to Melody's house, based on her text from earlier, she needs my help with something and knowing her I don't think it'll be hard. My mind wander off to the older me, how did she get here? Why is she here? Maybe something happened here so she's here to prevent it? But how? What's going to happen that's so bad that she had to come here? I was so deep in thought I didn't realize that I've already arrived at Melody's. I knocked on her door and Melody broke my thoughts by grabbing me by the arm and pulling me inside. "Alex! Thank God your here!" Said my curly brunette of a friend. "What is it this time?" I asked placing my hands on my hips once she let go of me. "You know that guy I've been telling you about?"

"You mean the guy who works with you, yeah... what about it?"

"Well... We've been talking and how he wants me to go to dinner with him tonite"
I sighed, knowing where this was going,

"Are you-"

"I don't know!" She interrupted, "oh, sorry"

"But did you just break up with someone a month ago?"

"Yeah, but... I don't know what to do" Melody says plopping down on her couch I sighed, joining her and placing a hand on her shoulder

"Melody, I can't help you with this, but I know that it's your decision. But please be careful"

Little did I know that, that promise would change everything...
"Alex-"

"Melody, please I don't what you to go
down the wrong path" I heard her sigh from beside me, "ok, I promise"
