3rd POV
The neighborhood Busan Baptist Church was crowded this chilly, autumn Sunday. The last Sunday of the month when the sinners finally decide to show up. The young people. That was, except Park Jimin, a high school senior and Kim Jennie, a junior. Their attendence was always looked upon by the elders with gratitude. Pastor Kim's son, Kim Namjoon, wasn't as dedicated to the church. Well, he wasn't even Christian. He didn't believe in anything. But he loved music, so he didn't mind providing his talents of music production for the church.
When Namjoon was in high school, freshman year, he knew that music was his future. This passion was shared between the atheist and church angel, Jimin, since forever. Jimin, being in the church choir and contemporary dance team, allowed them to collaborate and create a strong bond. The pastor supported this relation between the boys, hoping it would put an end to his son's defiance, so he wouldn't have to lie about his disgraceful son to the people of the church.
People bustled around, greeting each other with artificial smiles as fake as their acrylics or knock off Rolex. Jimin's parents sat in the second pew from the back for an easy exit without much notice. Jimin had his own car since he always stayed late for Bible classes, choir or dance rehearsals, and one on one time with Namjoon
He stood behind a microphone, a bit nervous as usual, waiting for service to begin.
One minute and 23 seconds.
He smiled at Namjoon for reassurance and dimples were sent his way. Namjoon's sincere smile giving the younger a boost of confidence. That smile is only for Jimin because Namjoon has to act like the purest, most religious being in the building when speaking to others. With Jimin, he knows he can be more laid back and realistic.
In the last few seconds of the countdown, the musicians took one more glance at each other before the elder began the track. It was a song they had been working on, a less gospel-y type thing to prove that there's a shared line for all types of music. Jimin's vocals had gracefully penetrated the air. Notes and beats popping up into the atmosphere.
"There was a beginning that I ceased to see, but the Word I read informs me..." He sang out with a piano to mezzo forte crescendo until the beat dropped, and Namjoon came in, rapping in a flow that was powerful but not aggressive. He was preaching a message of acceptance in his way. His parents put him together, but they refuse to accept and be glad in him.
The building was sent into an uproar of hollers and praises. Yet another beautiful performance. Now, an hour, Namjoon waits, drowning out his father's nonsense.
