Chapter 24 : X-factors
The boy pushed himself to hard. Silver shouldn't of ran from the halfway line and scored that second goal. Holdenbridge had fallen behind and the tables had turned so that Thornfalls were winning 2-1 before Xavier equalised -- but now he pays the price. My boyfriend had applied to much pressure on his leg and now he can barely walk. I don't understand Xavier, why'd he pushed himself to the brink of exertion like that.
But there is something I can learn from that. From him.
His determination.
To show that the captain will be there through thick and thin for his team, no matter the consequences. I love that about him. Xavier protects his own. He guards and stands up for his friends, something I would never of guessed when I first met him. Or ever think I'd be the lucky girl to date Silver. If someone had told me this two months ago I'd say you're crazy.
But then again, life's crazy isn't it?
"How are you holding up?" I ask Xavier, snapping out of my deep thoughts and taking a seat next to him.
We were once again in the locker room, most of the boy's were just chilling or getting ready for the second half of the game. Coach made sure Silver got subbed and refused out rightly to listen to why he did what he did, ignoring the two goals he scored.
"Yeah, I'll be okay,"He nodded his voice lowering. "Just be careful, alright? I'm not going to be able to watch your back now"
I nod, sighing softly. "I know, I'll be okay"
"But I'll still be cheering you from the side lines," He grins and a nervous bubble of laughter escapes my lips.
I stretch my legs, putting down my bottle of energy drink before waking up from the bench. Xavier raises his eyebrows in question.
"I need something from my locker"
He nods and I walk out. The hallways are empty, desolute and the cheers of the crowd outside lessens the further I get away from the noise until it dies down completely. The rows and rows of metallic lockers looks somewhat strange without the usual hordes of sutidents passing. The only sound is my footsteps bouncing of the tiled walls as I walk.
Until it's not.
"Daniella Swift"
I whip my head and come face to face with my former best friend.
"Thomas," I say coldly, my fists clenching.
"Calm down tiger," He jokes raising his hands in surrender,"That's not a nice way to talk to your bestie"
The way he says it makes me feel disgusted and something unsettling pits in my stomach. "Why are you here?"
"To threaten you of course," Thomas shrugs, without a hint of remorse.
How can someone be so casual about that? I can never understand these boys. Its amazing how best friend became my enemy so quickly. Maybe we weren't as close as I thought.
"What do you mean?"
"For you to take a dive, let your lovely former school win on purpose or else you secret is out"
"Why would I agree to that?" I ask incredulously.
"We've already hurt your little boyfriend," Thomas smirks. "That reminds me, Xray hasn't told you has he?"
