"Did you make sure the knots were secure?"

"Victoria Elizabeth Disraeli, I told you a million times already that the knots were secured" He said.

We were walking in the forest to meet Baker at the town hall. The Romans have killed many of our men already. Even our king and queen fell to their hands. We need to be cautious and more careful than ever.

"Good we don't want him escaping out of that cave, or it will be both of our heads on spikes"

Matthew and I have grown to known each other as friends in reality and lovers in fantasy. The fact of the matter was that I will be married off to Baker. It's why I need to stop our relationship before anything else happens.

Even though I love him.

"We're here" Matthew stated as we neared the village.

I didn't even realise we passed our hut on the hill. I could hear the chatter in the town center. All of them probably gossiping about how Jaques and Mary were caught in the act by the barn.

Or have they changed the subject to the three large roman ships descending on our shore. Matthew was right, these were war ships. Their size could carry thousands of men. Why would three ships that could carry thousands of soldiers descend on a small village?

The ships were now docking and all chatter seemed to stop. What could they possibly want with us? They could simply have sent one ship, even half a ship. Our men here our weak and not ready to fight till death.

The soldiers lowered a rowing boat on to the waters, which immediately started rowing to shore. Baker, who was busy talking to his council, stepped forward.

As the rowing boat neared, we could see there is 6 men. Two rowing, three that looked like soldiers and one, who seemed full of himself, in the middle. I'm geussing he's a captain or in a high position of some sort.

Matthew beside me tensed and reached for my hand. I squeezed his hand in a way of comfort. He sighed heavily as the rowing boat finally arrived.

"I'm here" I whispered to him in assurance.

The men stepped out in their silver armour that allowed their bodies to flow freely. Red accents underneath their, which looked like cloth, gave them the appearance of dominance. But we really hit me, was there stone cold faces filled with scars from many different wars.

The stories these men could tell. I seemed to be the only one intrigued with them. Everyone around me spelled hatred without even spelling it. They were probably still mad about the beheading of our king and queen and all that.

"If anything goes wrong, I want you to know I love you. But I need you to take care off yourself first and forget about me"Matthew whispered.

I wanted to tell him that he's being silly and that nothing will happen, but I was interrupted.

"My name is Legion Commander Alexander Antonius"

Besides, even I can't say with certainty that we'll make it out alive.

"Fifth of my name, Son to Pelosius and Ferhat, Conquerer of Idal, Conquer of Menoso-"

"I love you too" I whispered back.

"-and lastly Conquerer of Isapt. I have graced you all with my mighty presence-"

Why was i afraid? He's just another cocky bastard that got an eye roll from me.

"We are looking for a prisoner"He finally said.

Baker talked to the obviously self-centered man, but I thought back to the shackles I saw on the man in the Unalata cave. I did think he was a prisoner and I just wanted to help him, seeing as I shot him.

But it seems this man is important enough for three war ships. Oh Victoria, what have you got yourself into?
