Apparently Baker told him that no prisoner was seen here, but the self-centered man didn't seem to believe him.
"Mind if I take a look around?"
"Of course" Baker gave in.
My heart started to fluster as anxiety hit me. My breathing became more frantic, but I needed to keep my posture if I was going to survive this.
Matthew leaned in to my ear, obviously picking up that I was anxious.
"Please tell me the man in the cave isn't a prisoner?"Matthew asked.
I looked into his eyes and saw the worry hidden beneath. Something that didn't fit his light blue-jay eyes. I took a deep breath.
"Well he did have shackles on"I stated.
I could see the horror begin to form on his face. I felt so bad for dragging him into this.
"We'll be fine. The cave is quite hidden and you tied him up, so ther-"
His eyes dropped to the ground.
"You did tie him up, right?" I said as my anxiety soon turned to anger.
The Romans were busy rummaging through houses while we all we're in the town middle.
"But if he is a prisoner, he could easily escape from the knots" He whispered to himself, mostly, as he was in thought.
I yanked his hand to grab his attention.
"Did.you.tie.him.up?"
The panic set in his face and he quickly bit his lip. A habit he had when he was nervous.
"Hey! You can't do that!"Clara yelled at the Romans throwing things out of her house.
"Try to stop us, girlie"The man laughed.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw another rowing boat coming to shore. Unease settled in as John, Clara's husband, wanted to pound the man's face.
The self-centered man however grabbed Baker in his hold and threatened us with his life if we tried anything.
The soldiers seemed to find this incredibly funny as they laughed. Soon the atmosphere turned from passive to hostile.
I locked eyes with Baker, clearly seeing the fear in his eyes. Our men seemed to want to try something, but Baker shaked his head.
"Yes,but it was a simple knot. So he could easily escape, again"Matthew talked in the background.
I didn't really focus on him as my attention was directed to the soldiers. As the minute passed they became more aggressive, seeming to feel the tense atmosphere aswell.
Just as I was acknowledging what Matthew said, I saw nods amongst our men. They all looked into each other's eyes. I wanted to stop them as I saw the soldiers finally reaching the shore, but it was too late.
"Then we need to go"
As if on cue John yelled out:"NOW"
