Midnights!

Chapter 11.

"I'm grateful we got such a strong one with us, it's a big help as setting up the wooden plank on the window" old lady June smiled kindly and the boys smiled. "oh and your boys are doing great work at hanging the clothes up to dry" old lady June said with a small smile as she turned to Kieran, JJ and James who hang up the wet clothes on a line behind where Mikasa was setting up new wooden plank over a small basement like window. "looking good mika, try to keep a little pride guys" Max grinned as he came walking over. "max screw me" I ordered as I reached my right hand out beside me while holding the plank with my left and balancing the hammer in my pocket. "well you heard her, mika wants you to screw her" Kieran smirked while Max blushed a little. "just remember the tents aren't soundproof" James grinned. "have fun" JJ joked. "don't be so dirty minded boys but nice pick little miss" the old lady smiled and wink at me before walking away. "I meant pass me a screw for the wood" I mumbled embarrassed. "I'll just screw you for now" Max smirked and passed a couple before watching me hammer them into the wooden plank.

We bumped into the group of loners only two days ago just before dark. Lucky for them we arrived as a midnight was attacking one of the loners and we killed it without thinking. The only lady known as June was the leader of the loners with her husband Walter. The two came over thanking us after checking the guy we saved was ok and we lied saying we been kicked out of the walls for not following the rule over leaving others outside if they don't pass a skill test. June invited us to the group and well the unit is sharing two tents in the corner of the room. We have a feeling who the scientist might be but until we show that we not the same as wall people, we can't make a move on gaining information. Since I once was a loner I got use to the rules and how to act around everyone but the guys are struggling a little. It seems the wild life wasn't as fun and easy as they thought it might be.

"hey max" I called and he walked over. "what's up" He asked with a small smile. "don't drop me" I warned and he looked puzzled before quickly reaching his arms out as I jump down towards him. "i-I d-didn't drop you" He mumbled as he caught me in his arms. "good catch" I smirk and jump down from his arms. "you could have given me more warning" He sighed. "why, I knew you would catch me" I smiled as I closed the ladder up. "you did" he said surprised and I giggled. "yep, your always there when I need you" I smiled softly and ruffle his hair before walking past.

"aww" JJ smiled sweetly. "that was sweet" James smiled brightly. "is it love ... is it" Kieran asked excited. "I'm needed to cook tonight meal" Max mumbled before walking away. "ah young love embarrassment, those were the days" Walter smiled as he walked over and the three boys chuckled.

The day slowly goes by and two out of four loners with a soul protect is out hunting with a couple of other loners without soul protectors. I was lost in my own little world why the others just talked and laugh together. I was bought out of my thoughts when Max put his gloved hand on my shoulder shaking me a little. He seemed a little panic and I turned to him unsure. "You weren't responding" He frowned, worry clearly in his eyes as he looked to me. "oh sorry, just thinking" I mumbled and he looked me over before giving a small nod and we all started talking as a group again. I notice a loner suddenly rush over to the corner making me worry a little and listen in on what he had to say.

"hey June" Kev a loner who 28 called with huge grin as he ran over. "can I help Kev" June asked with a kind smile. "I know this area, my auntie lived just down the road and if I remember right her neighbours use to grow their own food" Kev smiled as he crossed his arms. "so, what are you asking" June asked with worry. "we still had sun and rain over the years meaning the plants would keep growing new food each year, let me go check the garden out and if I'm right then we have our own small farm" Kev smirked and June thought for a second. "a place with growing food would benefit us really well but its also risky to let you go alone and I can't spare anyone with a soul protector since I need them to protect the camp while the other two are out hunting" June mumbled and Mika walked over dragging max. "we help, we got soul protectors and you wont need to use your own loners with soul protectors if we go with him, we also have someone who knows about farming" I smiled kindly and waved the others over. "that would be helpful to have them check the plants to make sure they safe to eat and we won't be spreading those protectors thinly" Kev smiled. "fine, take two from our new friends but I want you back before sundown" June replied and Kev grinned. "thanks June" Kev smiled.
