A moment passes.
"I think we should let them stay awhile. Just until they are fit to leave." King Snowfur says, finally making is long anticipated decision.
I let my body relax and let out the breath I didn't realize that I was holding in. He chose a surprising option for him. Usually- from what I've heard about him- he would order his closest followers to kill them or drive them out.
"Thank you so much! We greatly appreciate your offer." I say sincerely, dipping my head with respect.
I hear Roseycheek shift uncomfortably. Does she not want to stay here? This is really out only option at this point.
"Tiger," he turns to the flame coloured she-wolf with black markings. "Go and show them around our lovely camp. Firefur," he turns to the flame coloured wolf. "I want to got tell the rest of the pack about our guests." He turn turns and narrows his eyes to Mousetail, Dusttail and Rockpaw. "I need all three of you to stay here because we need to talk."
As Tigerfur and Firefur push heave themselves up, I hear and see Mousetai, Dusttail and Rockpaw shift uncomfortably, fear glazing their eyes.
Tigerfur and Firefur come up to us and Roseycheek and I push ourselves up on to our paws.
Once we get up Tigerfur and Firefur continue out of the cave, Tigerfur beckoning with her tail for us to join her.
We follow her out of the cave just as Firefur breaks off from the group towards another group of wolves sitting at the edge of the clearing, talking in hushed voices and flashing Roseycheek and I suspicious glances.
I begin to notice that every wolf is doing this and a pang discomfort starts making me want to leave. We can't leave yet. There's no way out and Roseycheek and I need to make sure our strengths up.
I sidle a little closer Roseycheek.
"This is awfully suspicious." She hisses in my ear. "This is the first time King Snowfur has ever let anyone who wandered in from another pack live."
"To be honest. I was kinda surprised that he let us stay as well. I heard that he killed or drive off other wolves, but I'm having a hard time believing that's true."
She snorts and walks with her head down, glaring at the ground.
We arrive at where the fresh-caught prey is kept after a moment of walking in awkward silence. Roseycheek and I grab a mouse each while Tigerfur grabs a plump, juicy rabbit.
Tigerfur tears through her rabbit as if she hadn't eaten in half a moon.
Roseycheek pokes at her mouse a couple times before cautiously taking a bite.
I sink my teeth into the small body of the mouse, gulping it down anxiously.
Roseycheek and I ate before we left Forest Pack. That want that long ago and it's barely sun high bat this point.
Roseycheek and I quickly finish the small mice.
"Don't be afraid to take more. We've got plenty." Tigerfur offers after swallowing her bite.
"No thanks. We ate shortly before running into Mousetail's patrol." I politely decline, licking the last tiny scraps from my lips.
Her eyes widen with shock, pausing mid bite. She quickly gulps down her bite and urgently says: "You need to come with me. It's too risky to talk about it here." She pushes herself into her paws and turns to head to a different, more hidden part of the camp. She beckons with her head to follow.
