Roseycheek and I turn around the race out through the tunnel, fear pumping through us. We make a quick sharp turn to head towards the mountain.
The winds bats me in the face and the blood roars in my ears. I'm sure that if I could fly, this is how it would feel like.
The bushes and trees from Forest Pack fly by, barley glimpsing them.
The sound of Foxfur relentless grunting gets louder. He's catching up.
My heart starts racing faster, pounding against my chest. My breath quickens. I start running faster, my paws scarcely touching the dusty ground.
I glance at Roseycheek, who is thankfully keeping up with me, and gesture towards the labyrinth of bushes with my head. Her only reply is a determined nod.
We start weaving through the most dense bushes, moving wildly. Ducking under one, over the next around the third.
If we can't lose him doing this, then we're as good as dead and we'll come this only to fail!
Roseycheek and I skid under the last bush, making it to the final stretch of open land. The mountain towers welcoming in front of us, the base only the length of a fallen tree away.
Joy surges through me, my paws feeling as light a feathers. We're so close!
A relentless growl rises from close behind us. I can feel his hot breath on my tail.
Panic quickly takes over, my paws screaming at me to stop. I can't stop!
The blackberry bushes on the border rushes up to me sooner than I expected. Three... two... one... JUMP! I bunch the muscles in my back leg and, just like a rabbit, I push myself up, jumping over the bushes. I close my eyes tightly with fear.
The familiar scents of three Mountain Pack wolves greets my nose as I clear the bushes.
