Something More

"Are you listening, Hyung?" Namjoon asked, looking at Yoongi who was sitting at his work desk, adjusting something for a new track he had been working on. He had been lounging on his friend's sofa nearly all night, and the responses coming from the man at the work desk had gotten sparser and sparser as the night had gone on.

"You're just saying the same thing," Yoongi sighed. "You and Seokjin had dinner. You like each other, but you left it at that. What else is there?"

"I don't know," he mumbled, frowning. "I was hoping you'd have something to add."

"And what could I possibly add to that?" Yoongi turned his chair to look at him. "I think you should just make-out with the guy and get it over with. Follow Jimin's lead."

"Have I told you lately that you're a terrible Hyung?"

Yoongi laughed, turning back towards his computer. "Only every day. But you keep coming back because you know I'm right."

Namjoon cursed at the man under his breath, but he couldn't deny it. Honestly, he wished he could just make-out with Jin and see where things went with them, but he knew that was a stupid idea--especially since they had just gotten back on friendly terms. He didn't want to push his luck, so he would wait and see where Jin took things. He planned to merely follow his lead.

Unfortunately, Jin's lead seemed to be just being friends, as Namjoon found out over the next week. The two saw each other more thanks to Jimin and Hoseok being practically joined at the hip--meaning more "double dates" with all four of them--but Jin acted like nothing had happened. Namjoon was thankful they could talk normally now without any pretenses, but that's all they were. Normal friends.

It was as if the two of them hadn't confessed to having feelings for each other. He knew it was best that the two of them just stayed friends because of their positions as manager and trainee, but Namjoon couldn't help but feel a little disappointed. While he hadn't been expecting anything huge, he had hoped something would be a little different between them.

"You're way off-planet," Jin chuckled, bumping their shoulders together at the bar--the same one they had met at, actually. "What are you lost in thought about?"

"Nothing," he replied.

Jin frowned. "Namjoon, I've been around you long enough now to know that's a lie. Your eyebrows are all furrowed, and you're frowning so hard your dimples are showing."

"Sorry. I'm just thinking."

"I know," Jin smiled. "I'm asking what about."

He sighed, looking behind him into the crowd of dancers to see if Jimin and Hoseok were still busy showing up everyone else dancing before turning back to Jin. "Can I be honest?"

"Of course. We're friends, aren't we?"

Namjoon sighed again. "That's the problem."

Jin's smile fell. "What is?"

"This." Namjoon motioned between them. "Don't get me wrong, I like that we aren't at each other's throats anymore."

"But?"

"But, I don't want to leave things at whatever they are right now. I also don't want to screw up the peace we've figured out, either, though."

"What does that mean?"

"It means," he said, "I don't want to just be friends with you, Jin-Hyung. Not after knowing how we both feel. I guess I just expected something more to happen after that dinner we had last week."

"I thought you wanted to try being friends?"

"I do, but I don't want everything to just end there." He knew he was butchering this conversation, and he really wished he could rewind and have come up with some other lie about what was on his mind.
