Phil
Brian is quiet for a second. He seems slightly surprised.
Phil looks down at his wrist and takes a better look at the watch he was wearing. Definitely a rolex.
"That's the rolex sea-dweller right?" Phil asks while pointing at it.
Brian looks down at his watch and back at Phil and tills his head slightly. "It is. How'd you know?"
"I have a daytona myself." Phil smirks. He knows the model Brian is wearing right now retails at about 15.000 pounds.
"Sliver or gold?" Brian leans back and squints his eyes at Phil.
"Chocolate Arabic Dial." Phil also knows that his watch retails at about 23.000 pounds and by the looks of it, Brian knows that as well.
Brian tries to smile, but Phil can see in his eyes that he would rather punch him. The three guys sitting on the other couch obviously have no idea what is going on between them, which is probably why Brian doesn't punch him.
"Nice. That's a nice looking watch." Brian just nods.
"Yeah well," Phil raises his empty wrist. "they took it from me sadly."
"Basterds. They probably don't even know it costs their yearly salary." Brian scoffs. "Maybe I can get it back to you in a while."
Phil raises his eyebrows. "Wow, that would be nice." he nods. Enough provoking for now, before he actually beats you up.
"Yeah totally, I of course need to know I can trust you first." Brian says.
"Of course, understandable." Phil agrees. "For now I would just like some cigarettes honestly. Alan said you were the right adres for that."
Brian turns to Alan and smiles. "My man." he looks back at Phil. "I can definitely get you some cigarettes dude."
"Great." Phil says, waiting for Brian to name what he wants in return.
After a short pause Brian says "I like you Phil...". Well that's an absolute lie.
"Therefore your first order will be for free." Brian crosses his arms. "The second one will not be though." he raises his voice just slightly.
"I get it." Phil nods, "I don't really know what I have to offer you though."
"I might know something." Alan speaks up for the first time in minutes. "May I?" he looks at Brian. What a doormat.
Brian gives him a small nod as a form of permission.
"He is cellmates with Dan." Alan says with a big smile. "And he is not planning on switching."
Brian's eyes quickly shift from Phil to Alan and back to Phil. "Is that true?"
"Well... yeah. What does that matter?" Phil got a weird feeling in his stomach.
"Why don't you wanna switch?" Brian leans a bit forward.
Phil contemplates lying for just a second, but figures that he doesn't have anything to hide. Might as well just be honest. "I find him interesting. And I get bored very easily, so I figured, why not just dig a little bit." Phil shrugs.
For just a small moment Phil can see a smile creep on Brian lips but just like that it's gone again. "Well then we have another thing in common. I also find him very interesting and I'd like to know more about him."
"Why?" Phil frowns.
Brian shrugs, "Like you said, it's quite boring here."
For some reason Phil gets the urge to walk away, and stay away from Brian from now on. But he quickly pushes the urge down and shakes it off. This could be a good deal, and it certainly makes it more interesting. That's what he was looking for right?
"What kind of things would you like to know?"
Again the same smile flashes on Brian's face for just a second. "Let's make this deal, for every piece of information you think he wouldn't want me to know, I give you something in return."
Brian leans forward towards Phil, "And if you figure out why he is in here, I'll get you your watch." Brian grins. "How does that sound?" he holds out his hand for Phil to shake.
My first morning in jail, and I'm already making deals with the devil.
"Sounds like a deal." Phil smiles as he firmly shakes Brian's hand.
---
"I feel like that went well." Phil nods.
Alan closes the door behind them and they're back in the hallway.
"Yeah, you really kept your cool." Alan looks at the ground. "I was way more nervous the first time I met him." He looks... insecure?
Phil looks inside the small carton box he holds in his hand. Five cigarettes with 5 matches are inside. He looks back up at Alan and squints his eyes. "How'd you know that he would be interested in Dan?"
Alan sighs and shrugs as he starts walking back to where they came from. "He sometimes talked about him, that he doesn't trust him and stuff. Dan is one of the few people here that have been here longer than Brian, so Brian tried to talk to him multiple times but... well you've met Dan. He doesn't really talk." Alan smiles.
"You said Brian has been here for five months? How long has Dan been here?" Phil says as he follows Alan down the hall.
"Nobody really knows, we haven't found someone who was here when he arrived so that means he's probably been here longer than everyone else." Alan continues. "But there's this guy, Emmett, he's been here for eight months, and when he first came here Dan was his first cellmate too."
Phil frowns. "He's been here over eight months?!"
Alan grins. "Yeah it's insane right? Most kids are only in for two, sometimes three months. Everything above that is at least a little remarkable, but over six months is really, really weird."
"And I thought six weeks was a long time." Phil mumbles, more to himself than to Alan.
"It is dude, this is my seventh week and have another three to go." Alan raises his eyebrows at Phil. "Makes me wanna shoot myself."
Phil laughs softly. "Seems like Brian takes care of you though." More like he uses you.
"Yeah, I got bullied a lot in my first week here, but then I met Brian and he was really nice to me. Now nobody messes with me anymore." Alan smiles. "He's really cool."
Phil thinks for a second. "So if he only does stuff for others for something in return, what do you do for him?"
Alan stops walking and slightly tilts his head. "Didn't you notice?"
Phil frowns and shrugs.
Alan smiles. "I just gave him a new customer."
