ALEX POV

"Freak!" "Weak!" "Unwanted!" "Unloved!" "Murderer!" "Traitor!" "Whore!"All of these echoed in the darkness. I curled into a ball hoping it would stop. I felt the pain of losing my friend and family Sirius. I felt the sting of Vernon's belt again and again. I relived every single moment of hate and pain from the last 11 years. I knew no one cared about me or they would have come and helped me. I sunk deeper into the pain and despair that I could never escape.

"Alex, Love wake up it's just a nightmare! Wake up!" I could hear someone calling me up from the darkness and gently shaking me. Aunt petunia would never do that or call me love. My eyes popped open to Draco's worried but beautiful face. Once he realized I was awake he gave me a beautiful smile and scooped me up, cradling me in his arms, his wings out and ready to protect me. I could feel tears running down my face, hot and salty. I looked up at Draco's face thinking about all the years of hate that should have never been. Suddenly there was a movement from the desk. I turned my head and saw that my egg, witch sitting on top of the side dresser, was shaking violently and rocking back and forth. Hurriedly I dried my eyes and scooted from the middle of the bed and Draco's arms, to the edge and scooped up the egg holding it near my chest, cradle like. I felt the bed dip as Draco moved to sit next to me. I was still staring at the egg it now had small cracks running from the top. I could sense that Draco wanted to ask what was going on but he stayed silent, for which I was grateful to my mate. Suddenly a loud cracking came from the egg and the shell crumbled to pieces in my hand. In the middle of the wreckage was a small curled up animal. She, for it was female, untucked her head from under her wing and look at Alex with big deep blue eyes. She yawned and Alex could see a small forked tongue and teeth that looked as sharp as his own canines. She closed her mouth and stood, shaking out her wings and stretching. Her underbelly was a pearly white color while her top side was a dark blue black color that faded to a purple with what seemed to be random white starburst patterns. On her feet she had tiny crescent shaped claws that had an iridescent sheen. She looked up at me and stared into my eyes for a moment then she turned and looked at Draco. She stared at him for another moment then in two heartbeats she was up next to my face and curled on my shoulder looking alert and watchful. I turned and smiled at Draco, who was still watching the dragon with a slightly awed look on his face. His eyes flicked up and meet mine holding them for a moment. A soft knocking came from the door and the moment was broken. Draco scooped me back into his lap careful of the dragon on my shoulder. "Come in, Hermione." Draco called out. I gave him a funny look and said "How did you know it was 'Mione?" He smiled and replied, "Because of her smell." "What does she smell like?" I asked curious. Draco thought for a moment. "Like sunshine, soap, cinnamon and springtime." Hermione laughed from the doorway. "That sounds like me." she said smiling. "What do I smell like?" I asked, nervous. Draco smiled and said "Would you mind if I tell you later, when we are alone?" I gave him a confused look, rolled my eyes and turned back to Hermione. "Your dragon is beautiful. What is her name?" At the compliment I could feel the small reptile purr and vibrate my whole body. My face lit up at the feeling. "I haven't named her yet. She hatched only about 10 minutes ago." I said looking at the small dragon. Suddenly a name was in my mind. "I think her name is Nira." As soon as I said that name she let out a small roaring sound. I laughed and looked at Draco who was watching me with an amazed look on his face. From the doorway Hermione started asking tons of questions. After a moment I tore my own eyes from his and turned to Hermione. "... How did you know her name? Does she understand human? I wonder if she has a mind link to you? That not surprising as she is your familiar. Maybe she was conscious of what was going on outside of her egg. That would explain why she hatched when she did. I'm sure she could feel your distress. Will she get any bigger? What does she.." I forgot how much she talked and what she had said reminded me of my nightmare and I cuddled back into Draco hiding my face in his chest. I could hear Hermione stop talking and I felt Nira stand on my shoulder facing her. I could feel everyone's emotions, Hermione worried about what she had said, Draco hoping that I was ok and happy that I trusted him, and Nira. From Nira I felt anger directed towards Hermione with calm and happy at me. I let out a small gasp. I felt Draco tense and take my shoulders, pulling me back to make sure I was okay. "I'm fine," I said looking at him a little breathlessly, "I just could feel..." I didn't really know how to put it into words. "I felt all of your emotions and Hermiones and even Nira's. It was weird, like I knew why you were all feeling that way." I shuddered glad that the feeling was gone. Draco looked over me again just to make sure then let me cuddle back up to him. Draco looked at Hermione and asked "So did you come here for a reason or just to upset my mate?" I gave Draco a half-hearted hit in the stomach, then I stood up. He let out an oof sound and fell over on the bed. I laughed at him and grabbed him hand trying in vain to pull him off the bed. "Well before I got distracted I was coming to get you and Alex as Professor Snape would like to talk to his son." Hermione said with a smile, then she turned and disappeared into the darkened hallway. Draco had sat up and was staring at me, a silent question in his eyes. I took his hand and we both followed Hermione out of the room and into the hallway.
