D-RWBY: Volume 2

Search and Destroy

The opening scene reveals the horrified expressions of Team DANY and Team RWBY as they stare at their assigned guide for the week.

Weiss blinked in disbelief. "Professor Oobleck?"

Oobleck zipped between the students, his green scarf fluttering. "Yes, I'm afraid those bags won't be necessary, girls and boys! Seeing as you've opted to shadow a Huntsman on what is now essentially a reconnaissance mission, I can assure you we will not be establishing a single base of operations! Rather, we will be traversing several miles of hazardous wasteland and making camp in any defensible locations we may stumble upon! I've packed all our essentials myself, provided the air courses, and readied the airship! And—"

He suddenly appeared inches from Weiss's face, making her stumble back. "It's DOCTOR Oobleck! I didn't earn a PhD for fun, thank you very much!" He zipped back to his original position in a blur of motion. "Now, any questions?"

Weiss looked over at Dark, who appeared equally disturbed. "Uh..."

"Come now, children!" Oobleck exclaimed, checking an imaginary watch. "According to my schedule, we are already three minutes behind!" He paused, as if realizing something. "...schedule!"

With that, he zipped off toward the airship docked ahead, leaving the students in his wake.

Ruby attempted to stay positive. "Well, alright, then! Looks like we're going to save the world with Doctor Oooobleck—" Her enthusiasm faded as she caught her teammates' expressions. "Okay, yeah, when you say it out loud it sounds worse."

Daniel patted her head reassuringly. "It does, Ruby."

A voice suddenly called out to them. "SAVE THE WORLD?!"

All eight turned to see Nora and Team JNPR approaching.

"You're going on a world-saving mission without us?" Nora asked dramatically, placing a hand over her heart. "I'm sad and hurt!" Her stomach rumbled loudly. "Also a bit hungry? That last one's not my fault, though. Ren!"

Ren crossed his arms and turned away with a "Hmph!"

Jaune leaned in, curious. "Sounds exciting! Where are you going?"

Daniel gestured vaguely. "Well, just outside of the kingdom."

Nora's eyes lit up. "Hey! So are we!"

Pyrrha smiled. "Ren and Nora wanted to shadow the sheriff of a nearby village."

Ren nodded. "We set out tomorrow."

Neptune's voice carried over from nearby. "Then you can party with us tonight!"

Neptune and Sun joined the conversation, Neptune holding up what looked like a badge. "We're shadowing a crime specialist. All inner-city detective stuff. We get junior badges."

Jaune stared at the badge in awe. "Whoa, really?"

Sun explained, "We normally go to the city with you guys, which means stuff's always exploding and junk, so we thought this might be a better way to check out the kingdom when it's, you know... normal."

Daniel nodded in agreement. "Yeah, with us... crazy things always happened."

Ruby started to respond, but Oobleck's voice cut through the air. "Four minutes, ladies and gentlemen!"

He disappeared back inside the airship as their friends offered awkward smiles.

"Well, uh..." Ruby threw a thumbs-up. "Wish us luck!"

With that, the friends dispersed, some heading back to Beacon, others toward their respective missions.

Hours later, aboard the airship, Yang watched as Oobleck sipped from his ever-present thermos. "I guess I just never saw you as much of a fighter."
