“Amy...” A soft whisper made me jump and I whirled around to see a dark, lanky figure standing tall behind me. He leaned forward and placed his large, cold hand on my shoulder.

“Whoa! Get off!” I swerved around under his arm and sprinted down the pavement. I could hear noisy footsteps pacing behind me and I made myself go faster and faster until my legs began to hurt.

“I’ll never give up!” His voice was calm yet petrifying, so deep it was frightening. With every word he said, a small earthquake broke out beneath my feet. Like a fairy-tale villain; birds and insects would flee at the sound of him coming. My foot got caught on a tree root that had broken through the concrete and I slipped on the wet pavement. Tumbling over backwards, I landed on my bottom and a piercing pain shot up in my spine. I couldn’t move. I tried to lift myself but my body refused to. Inside my head I was screaming and crying but no noise came out of my mouth. It was like my body was failing, stalling like a car’s engine. What was I going to do? He was getting closer and closer, moving himself slowly towards me as if he was mocking me, as if to say he’s realised I cannot and is rubbing it in my face, laughing.

“Stupid, little girl. You cannot even protect yourself. I mean, look at you. Lying on the floor like a helpless puppy, just staring at me like I’m actually going to help you.” I whimpered and shrivelled up; terrified by the danger that was awaiting me. What was he going to do with me?
