The street was dead. Silent. A ghost town. I had no idea where I was but I needed to find out. I couldn’t stand out in the middle of the street for long, as I was out in the open. So vulnerable. I hurried around a corner and hid in a dark alley. I covered my mouth to muffle my breathing as he was standing outside the alley way. He was completely oblivious to the fact that I was within reaching distance from him. I held my breath for as long as I could until my lungs started to burn. I took my hand off of my mouth and took a deep breath in. His head jerked to the side and he looked right at me, deep into my eyes, smiling. He moved slowly towards me as if he thought that I hadn’t seen him. Without a second to lose, I raced down the alley as fast as I could, so fast that I actually thought I was going to die. Cramp shot through my body but I carried on. I was not going to let him catch me again. I was risking everything I had to get away from this man. I gave my all until, all of a sudden, my heart dropped. What I had seen made me choke and panic. It was a dead end.

“Ha-ha! You cannot get away from me!” He smiled like I’ve never seen anyone smile before, like the Cheshire cat, yet his teeth were yellowy brown and I’d never noticed that he was missing one of his front teeth.

“Oh, and I never got to tell you why I needed you! Well I guess now’s the time!” His smile faded and he looked at me with his dark eyes.
