The sun shone through the white of the mist as the day begun. Birds had been awake for a while beating the human species to the starting line. Crickets had been quiet for hours and owls had gone to sleep.
Standing up from her up right chair in the breakfast room after finishing off her biscuit and tea. Stacey pulled on her coat to fight off the chilly wind from the previous days rain. She left the motel with a little wave at Katy.
She had been living at the motel for three weeks and it was weighing on her pocket. She needed to find an apartment soon. Maggie had been on her about that the previous week. Telling her that she may think three months was a long time. But for a suspecting mother it could be as good as two weeks.
She had been working at Excited for as long as she had been living at the motel. She had been taken on as family by the long term staff and with in a week the word that she was expecting had spread. Most of the staff were mother hens and protective fathers. And the young waiters, working to get through college, were doting aunts.
She had grown close to Liz and looked forward to her optimistic nature. Kimberly or Kim as she was called, was always talking about new eye candy staying at the hotel.
The two were opposites as well as complementing parties in character. Where Liz was business woman looking, going for the receptionist look to match her job. Kim was good time girl, dressed to impress - or be noticed - in total contrast to her job as assisting chef.
Where Liz had a model body - slim but healthy - with small breast and a bum she had to work for. Kim had a model body with big breasts and a bum, paired with just the right size hips to be noticed. Where Liz was out front and everyone saw her, Kim was back in the kitchen and no one saw her.
Under Kim's chef coat was always an outfit to look twice at. Liz was dressed to keep unwanted attention away while making sure to represent the hotel to the best of her ability.
They were good friends and had included Stacey in their group. Both claiming older sister roles and putting pressure on her to take the breaks she had been given.
She liked her job enough that there were days that she didn't think about the path she couldn't go down any more. The path that she had planned and chosen. The path that would make her parents proud. And added to the love for her colleagues was the free samples at the ready when she got hungry at ten.

Walking down the road and towards the busy side of town, Stacey went through the plan for her day off again in her head. First things first.
She was going to the bank to put money in a trust for her child. Then she had an appointment at a potential apartment, with the building owner. Following a doctors appointment made by Maggie. Then an overdue seat at the ice cream shop on third street. Finishing it off with a long soak in the tub she never had energy to use.
She hailed a cab on third and asked the driver to take her to the nearest bank, which was at Centre Square.
"Pay day for you? " they grey haired cabby asked. His smile wrinkling the corners of his eyes.
" No. Opening a back account. " she smiled back.
" Aaaah. Young kids. That your only stop?" he asked, he had noticed her slightly protruding stomach when she got into the back seat.
"Yes, straight there. " she rested against the seat and closed her eyes. If not for the bank business, Stacey would have slept in. But if she wanted to get in and get out with out waiting in line, she had to be there as soon as the bank opened.
He pulled up at Centre Square and instead of stopping at the curb to let her off, he turned into a parking space turned off the ignition.
"Ill wait her kid, take your time. "
