Chapter Two; Preach The Truth

Lauren found herself getting into his car and expected Martin to be driving to a bar. Because she knew exactly what he was like and more so exactly what she was getting into.

She knew that this could possibly open up a can of worms but what choice did she have? She wanted to move on with her life and move on from all the pain and this was the only way to do it.

They pulled up outside their destination, It turns out that it wasn't a bar but a cafe. She looks at Martin and smiles weekly. Maybe he has reformed after all.

They walk in together and sit opposite each other by the window. Martin looks at the menu and then at the waitress who just came to take their order. "I'll have a coffee please, Black." He looks at Lauren, "Do you want anything?"

She shifted around uncomfortably realising that she agreed to this when she didn't have any money with her. Her credit cards were maxed out and she was already in loads of debt as it is trying to keep her family home firmly above her head.

He notices the fact that she's uncomfortable. "Are you okay? Listen I'll get this it's the least I can do."

She smiles, "In that case, I'll take a hot chocolate please."

The waitress leaves to make their order. And Martin attempts to make conversation with Lauren. "So, tell me about you. How have you been the last couple of years?"

Lauren shrugs. "As well, As I can be I guess, especially since my Dad got pretty bad and ended up in rehab and the fact my parents aren't even together anymore."

He nodded sympathetically. "Yeah, I heard about that. Are you still living with your mum right now then? I hope he's okay."

Lauren sits up to make herself more comfortable. "He's doing better these days thanks, He'll be out soon but in answer to your question, No I'm not living with my mom anymore."

He raises his eyebrow looking at her curiously. "You've not had a falling out, have you? Since Tilly died I mean?"

The waitress returns with their drinks and Martin takes a small sip.

Lauren shook her head. "No, we haven't fallen out over anything lately well, we have our arguments but no more than usual. She signed the house over to me."

Martin splutters his drink in surprise. "What?! How the hell are you affording that?!"

Lauren hung her head. "Truthfully? I'm not. I have a massive credit card debt as long as my arm and I'm struggling to get a job because of my criminal record but I'm doing it because I want to stay so I can be close to her."

He reaches out toward her hand. "Why didn't you tell me? I could've helped you."

Lauren swallows nervously. "We weren't exactly in a good place, were we? I don't think my parents would like that idea."

Martin looks at her sadly. He caused all this and he had to do something to help her, Anything would do. "Let me help you. I have a good job and I'm in a position to help you keep the house. I could move in and make sure it stays in your name and In the family."

Lauren looks at him excitedly. "You'd really do that? For me?'

He nods. "Of course, Its the least I can do after everything. I am so sorry for so my screw-ups. I promise from now on everything will change. "

They look at each other for a moment knowing that if both of them agreed to this and wanting to do this then this would be the point of no return.

This was definitely, Opening up a can of worms. One that Lauren has always wanted to avoid but I'm this case did she really have a choice?

She grins at Martin. "In that case, Why not? This night help us rebuild our relationship. You are a good guy Martin you've just done some horrible things and I've done a lot of growing up since we last saw each other two years ago. You can move in tomorrow."

He smiles at Lauren. "That is music to my ears"
