"I know where we're going," Pret reassured the young man.
"Are you sure? Because you're leading us straight into giant territory." a young man growled.
"I told you to stay with the wagon," Pret sighed.
"You wouldn't let any guards come with you, and there was no way I was letting you go alone," he huffed.
"If you must come, then let me do the talking. In fact, don't talk at all." she snapped, "And hurry up." She picked up her pace.
"Where are you going?" he asked as she ducked underneath the crack of a giant's door.
"Go quick before another giant picks up your scent," she ordered.
He popped out next to her, "Everything is so big!"
"Giants are big," she muttered dryly, feeling footsteps progress towards then.
"What the hell is that?" the man hissed.
"Take a guess, dumbass," she rolled her eyes.
"Who do we have here? Did ye bring me a snack or a slayer t'come kill me? What am I even sayin'? Either way, he's a snack." the giant smirked. The young man took a step in front of Pret. The giant, taking it as a challenge, effortlessly knocked the frantic young man over and reached for the girl.
"Don't touch me," she snapped.
"Oi. Fine, fine." the giant pursed his lips bitterly but stopped his pursuit.
"Do you know this giant?" the young man whispered to Pret.
"Unfortunately so," Pret sighed.
"But seriously, who is that?" the giant questioned.
"He's-"
The young man clumsily leapt to his feet and stood back in front of her, "I am Sir Afton Toffney Lofton the Third, Lord of Fraunch. Who are you, beast?"
"Lachlan," the giant informed him flatly.
She took a step away from Afton, "Our wagon got stuck in the mud, and we can't get it out. Do you think you could help us out?" Pret asked Lachlan.
"Why can't yer lil tough guy get it out?" Lachlan jeered.
"It's stuck in deep. Something spooked the horses, and they ran it right into the trench." Pret explained, ignoring his sarcasm.
"C'mon then," Lachlan offered Pret his palm, which she cautiously stepped into. Afton slowly approached the palm, but Lachlan was quick to snatch him up in a semi-tight fist.
"HEY!" Afton barked. Lachlan held Afton horizontally at his side and held Pret vertically in front of his chest.
"Where are ye 'n' half pint goin'?" Lachlan inquired as he exited his house. They could both vaguely hear protests from Afton in the background.
"It's a small town called Adelia," she informed him.
"I've heard o' that place. They have great snacks there." Lachlan grinned, "Why are ye comin' through this way? Ye're approachin' ogre territory."
"I know. I told my parents that we'd be fine, but they still sent extra guards with us anyway." Pret sighed.
"Well shit, lass. I could've just walked ye through there." Lachlan offered.
"I was hoping we wouldn't come across you," Pret mumbled.
He scoffed, "Ouch."
"No offense, but you're kinda a bitchy, needy, man-eating giant, and I didn't want to deal with your ass." she shrugged.
