Emmett
I leaned against the door frame and watched the blonde girl sitting on the couch looking up at Carlisle who spoke to her calmly.
I felt the urge to scoff. To think, not long ago, this had been the girl bullying Sophie.
It was almost hard to believe with the frightened look in her red eyes.
It was almost enough to make me feel sorry for her. She was practically broken down when the Alec scam had brought her in.
The only reason Alec didn't kill her was because Sophie ordered it.
"Emmett." I heard Esme's voice whisper.
I turned around to face the woman I knew as my mother.
She had a soft smile on her face as she walked towards me.
She stared after the girl infront of us.
"Can you believe what great lengths people will go to to ruin lives?" She asked, shaking her head in disappointment.
"Sometimes lives need to be broken in order to get a reality check." I spoke.
She looked at me and frowned.
I knew she was probably suspecting that I was talking about myself. If Rosalie hadn't walked out of my life, I wouldn't have met Sophie. I wouldn't have realised what true love was.
I looked at Esme. She was quiet, too quiet.
"What's wrong Esme?" I asked her.
She turned to look at me. "I was keeping an eye on Sophie's father today. He just filed a missing persons report."
I didn't want to feel as disappointed as I did but there was a black hole in my chest that just threatened to suck up my entire existence.
"So that's it." I muttered.
How could she? Talk so much about wanting to help and then just leave.
I know I had told her not to get turned. But that was exactly it. I told her not to go and get turned and she left anyway. Didn't she hold my thoughts into consideration at all?I know she wasn't obliged to but I guess a small part of me had been hoping.
"I'm sure she had her reasons, Em. We know Sophie. And the last thing she would want to do is hurt the people she loves."
Too bad that list doesn't include me.
"Correction. We knew Sophie. I for one don't even recognise her anymore."
Esme frowned. "She never meant to hurt you, Em. I know it."
"I just need all of you to stop saying that." I told her.
I wasn't in the mood to get angry anymore.
I was tired.
I just wanted it all to stop.
Esme put a comforting hand on my shoulder but I just turned away.
I looked at Carlisle still talking to the girl in the living room.
I knew the others were all out doing their various duties. Watching Sophie's father and Helen and looking out for the new borns, making sure no one in town was getting hurt with so many uncontrollable vampires around.
"I need to go." I told Esme.
She nodded in understanding. This wasn't the first time one of her sons needed some space because of a heart break.
"Where will you go?" She asked.
I shrugged. "I don't even know yet. I just need to get away. Say goodbye to the others for me."
I cast one last look at Carlisle. I just couldn't face him right now.
She frowned but nodded none the less. "Find your way back to us soon, Em." She told me before placing a kiss on my cheek.
I turned and sped to the garage. My Jeep was in pieces so I guess I'm running.
I started out down the woods.
What was the plan anyway? I couldn't go on like this.
Exposing myself as a vampire wasn't a good idea because then the voluturi would have to get involved and I'd rather not have the people who took my love away from me end my life.
I could find a pack of wolves and provoke them enough to devour me. But the again that wouldn't be fair to Jacob and the peace we had made with his pack.
Or I could-
Umphf.
I felt myself being tackled to the ground.
I looked up and saw Edward looking down on me. Bella coming up behind him.
I don't know how long I had been running or how far I had gotten.
"How did you find me?" I asked.
"I could hear your thoughts from a mile away." He spoke. Disapproval shone in his eyes.
I couldn't help but feel embarrassed remembering the promise I had once made to him.
"Why are you here?" I asked, refusing to meet Edward's eyes.
Bella was the one who spoke this time.
"Alice had a vision."
