Lora Fernandes strolled to her final period of the day. She had basically given up at this point. The entire day had been a mess of dashing madly to and fro classes, copying down confusing notes and getting lost.
Oakleaf High was huge! Lora feared she would never learn the many intricate passageways and staircases leading to her lessons. For now, she was exhausted, and couldn't wait to get home.
Her last class was Creative Writing, and she had picked this specifically because she enjoyed telling stories. Creating fantasy worlds unlike those ever seen before, forming characters with tragic backstories and realistic personalities, tying together a story with a shocking plot twist; these were the kinds of things Lora adored. Hence she had picked the class.
Yet here she was, not even trying to get there on time. Sighing, she hefted her heavy backpack and sped up slightly. Finally, she arrived at a black door.
Knocking, she gently opened the door and slid into the room. "I'm sorry I'm late," she apologised. The teacher in question simply adjusted his glasses and grinned "It's alright. Anyway, Einstein said time is relative, right? So maybe you're on time, and we're all early." Lora forced a grin and scanned the room for an inconspicuous seat.
However, there were only two available chairs left, and both of them were near a group of four boys, with the only one she recognised being Kairi. Lora inhaled a deep breath, steeled her nerves and walked towards them before placing her bag on the floor and sitting down carefully. The boys all turned to look at her at once and she hid her face with her curtain of jet black hair.
Mr Tony then began speaking "So, good morning, class of 2022! I'm Mr Tony, and I'll be your Creative Writing teacher this year." He started vociferating a long, prepared speech and Lora rested her chin on her hands, trying not to space out.
She snapped back into focus when she heard the word 'project'. "-this year, I'll be giving you a massive project which is equal to 50% of your final average, and 10% each term. You will have to write a full length novel, spanning over 50,000 words, print it, and hand it in. See, it's simple!" Lora's jaw dropped, and it seemed her reaction was mimicked by the rest of the class, which was now in pin drop silence.
Slicing through the silence like a knife through butter, the teacher continued "But not to worry, this is a group effort. As there are 21 students in this class, there will be 3 groups of 5 students and one group with 6. You do not get a choice as you will be grouped with the people you are sitting with." The four boys each high fived each other before turning to gaze at Lora. She sunk into her seat and rubbed her eyes tiredly. Life was not being kind to her today.
