I rolled my eyes as mom fussed over me. "Mooooom!" I complained. "Oh sorry dear, but you just look so grown up." Mom dabbed her eyes with a handkerchief. Then she proceeded to blow her nose. "I look fine,  stoooop." I complained as mom straightened my hair for the one hundredth time. "My little baby, all grown up and going to 5th grade." mom smiled softly at the me. "I remember when you used to be so little, able to sit on one of my hands. Now you're going to school making new friends." I awkwardly leave for mom was now in the process of sobbing her eyes out.

I walk to the sidewalk and wait. The big yellow school bus screeched to a stop nearby, letting kids in and I ran to catch up. I walk inside and find a seat in the middle rows. I look out the window in boredom and see mom waving at me. "Dude, who's mom is that?" some kid said to his friend. They softly snickered and I failed at hiding my red face. "Excuse me, mind if I sit here?" I turn to see a girl with brown hair and blue eyes staring at me expectantly. "Um, yeah sure."I pat the spot next to me. "I'm Astrid." she said. "Nashi." we shake hands.

As the bus starts to move, Astrid pulls out a magazine. "Looks like Fairy Tail's been causing more trouble." she giggled. "Fairy Tail?" I ask. "You don't know?! Fairy Tail is the coolest guild ever. My favorite member has to be Mirajane. She's so pretty. My mom says there used to be another pretty member too, but she just vanished one day and was never heard from again. I can't show you magazines of her since their old and 'Not for kids.'," Astrid did air quotes. "But I've seen one and she's gorgeous. You'd think she'd had to be a model."

"You talking about Fairy Tail?" a kid from behind suddenly joined in the conversation. "Shove out Axel." the black haired boy glared at Astrid with similar blue eyes as her. They must be siblings. "I'm your older brother, show me some respect. But seriously, you're obsession with Mirajane is unhealthy. She's not even that strong."

"Is too!"

"Natsu is cooler, he took Sting and Rogue on by himself and won in the GMG." I gasped. "Really?" I had heard all about Sting and Rogue. Mom had never been hesitant to tell me all about the guilds. Except Fairy Tail. Now that I think about it, every time there was the mention of that guild, Mom suddenly had better things to talk about. Or when the news was on on the Lacrima TV and Fairy Tail was the topic, mom turned off the TV or changed the channel.

"Whatever, lets go Nashi." I was so lost in my thoughts I hadn't realized the bus had stopped. "Wait, don't leave, I still have a question." Axel stopped in front of me. "Where'd you get your hair done? You look almost identical to him." I stare at him in confusion. "This is how my hair has always been."

Suddenly I am pushed to the floor. "Hey Pinky. Your dad picking you up after school? Oh wait..." laughter erupted from my attackers and from the audience. "Go away David." Astrid said to the brown haired bully and his goons. He'd always messed with me and he sure had a field day when he found out about me not having a dad. "Whatever, see you later Pinky." for pure spite, he pushed me to the floor again as I was getting up. The crowd soon disbanded and students headed to class. "What did he mean when he was talking about your dad?" Axel asked, trying to break the silence. "Axel!" Astrid punched him. "It's fine, I grew up without my dad. I've been just fine without him." Astrid glared at his brother. "What happened to him? Did he die?" Astrid went a little further this time and shoved him. "Nah, he just found true love and so he left mom. She doesn't blame him though." Axel nodded. "So who was it?" Astrid slapped her brother.

"I said give it." David held me in the air by the collar of my shirt. "No." I spat out. Whispers emerged from the audience once again gathered around to see the action. Astrid and Axel were held back from helping me by David's workers. The bully raised his pudgy hands, threatening to punch me. "I said, give. Me. The. Money." He growled. "And I said, NO!" David glared at me with his cold brown eyes before delivering a blow to my face. "Ooh!" The crowd went. I held my face in pain. "Fine..." I mumble. He was bigger and tougher than me. No way was I going to win. I reached into my pockets for my lunch money. "If your moms as weak as you, it's no wonder why your dad left. Hand the Jewel." David said loudly enough for everyone to hear.

My hand froze, midway in the air. I clench my first and crumple the paper. "Hey, I thought I told you to give me the Jewel." I stood up slowly, shaking from anger. I look up and give David a glare. David nervously looked at his goons. "Don't you ever." I feel warmth travel through my hands. "Talk trash about my mother." I raise my fist. "Again."

"As you can see Miss Ashe, your daughter has gone out of control. She gave this young man a burn on his face, along with many bruises. It is unclear how this happened and while he was trying to hurt her, she should've called a teacher instead of dealing with it by herself." Mom looked at the picture of David after the fight and then me with shock. "Nashi? Is this true?" I nod slowly. Mom let out a sigh. "And you said a burn, correct?" the principal nodded. "Correct." Mom looked horrified. "Nashi, can you please head outside. The adults are talking." I frown but obey.

I turn to look at David, his mom hugging him. She spotted me and sent me a death glare, similar to my mother's but not quite as scary. "Freak." David mouthed at me. I look down at the floor. I trudge down and up the hallway ignoring students whispers. All of them revolving around the same topic. "Freak, monster, demon."

I feel tears fall down my face. "Can monsters actually cry?" I snapped and fled out the school. I wipe my tears but they wouldn't stop falling. I took cover in an empty alley. Or so I thought.

Hiccups interrupted my pity party. "Hey kid, this is my alley. Get lost." I turn and see a brown haired girl surrounded by wooden kegs. Most were toppled over but she was holding on to one of them for support. "Are you drunk?" I ask. "Noooo. The bar just kicked me out cause they couldn't handle me" The woman slurred her words then giggled. "You're drunk." I decide. I get ready to walk out but a hand stops me. "I know you, you look familiar. Say what," the girl looked around to make sure nobody was here then grinned. She leaned to my ear, I resisted the urge to gag at her breath. "I tell you your fortune and you tell nobody I was here. Especially anyone with this mark." she pointed to her stomach. A small blue mark I recognized resided there. "Fairy Tail?" I ask. "Yep. And if you answer this question." I nod. "Have you seen a girl with blonde hair and brown eyes. She should be about 27 now. She has golden keys, including Leo and Aquarius." that sounded like my mom, but my mom had brown hair and blue eyes. "No." I answer. "Dammit! Ugh, anyway. Let's begin." the drunk woman pulled out some cards. "Any questions?" I think about it. "Two so far. Who's my dad and why did mom keep him a secret from me." the woman placed several cards. She whistled. "What? What is it?" I ask. "Kid, the question you should really be asking is why did she keep you a secret from him?" I frown. "What?" The woman laughed. "Seems here she had you when she wasn't supposed to." I clench my fists. "Why is that funny?" I ask. "It's not, sorry..." the woman placed more cards. "Your mom didn't want to have you... you weren't supposed to happen... your... your mom has a terrible secret..." suddenly the woman didn't seem so carefree or drunk anymore. "I'm sorry. You'll have to deal with this when you get home." she walked away, leaving me all alone in an alley with only the sounds of silence to comfort me. 'Didn't want me? Not supposed to happen?' I thought. 'It's not true, that lady was drunk. But what if it is true?' I shake my head. "She's my mom, she loves me. Of course it's not true."
