By 6:00 PM, we had gotten ready for the Formal and found out where and when it was.
"Gray Birch School," I quoted. "Called it!"
Rhea laughed. "So you did. You ready to get your dance on?" She started doing some sort of... interesting... mix between the hula, the bunny hop and the tango.
"Yeah, but not like that," I said, pointing to her interesting dance.
We headed out and found Lyra and Robyn coming out at the same time.
"Woah. You guys look amazing!" exclaimed Lyra. She looked fantastic in her yellow and coral mottled dress that went down to her knees. We found some platform shoes that went with it and they looked great.
Robyn smiled. Her sea green dress was gorgeous. The V-neck wasn't super low, and was covered in sequins. The single strap over her left shoulder was frilly, and the dress itself went down to her shins.
"Thanks! You too," complemented Rhea. Her dress was the same as Robyns, but blue.
We headed downstairs and Ms. Shaw-Norbash saw us. "Ladies! You look wonderful! Are you off to the Spring Formal?"
"Yes. You have a good night, Ms. Shaw-Norbash!" I smiled.
She waved her hand. "Oh, call me Mary. See you later!"
We headed down the street for a few blocks and came to a large brick building. I smiled at the others and we walked inside with our elbows linked together.
We were greeted with loud music and happy laughs. The dance was inside the school gym and we gasped when we saw it. There were streamers hung from the ceiling rafters. There were balloons taped to the walls and weighed down by bags of sand. To one side, there was a buffet table filled with cookies, punch and cupcakes. At the front of the gym was a hired DJ with a beanie and headphones on his head. Wearing sunglasses in a dimly lit gym made didn't make him cool, but made him look like a person trying to be hip. It wasn't working.
This was way more than my school did... When I went to school, that is. I saw Atlanta, Olivia, Hannah and Emma come in.
"I guess we abandoned our ''come in together as dates'' plan," said Atlanta.
Lyra saved me from answering. "Yeah. The boys weren't ready yet, so we just came."
Atlanta's eyes narrowed but she brushed it off. "Alright. This place is awesome!" she commented.
"I know! I love the streamers!" I smiled as one floated down in front of my face.
We started dancing. I discovered it wasn't that hard. Our dresses swished to the beat. I saw the other students dancing in their tuxes and ball gowns/party dresses. I noticed one girl in the corner talking to another and she handed something over. I shook my head. You never knew what happened at extra-curricular activities like this.
It was at this time when the boys came in. Liam was wearing a black tuxedo with a white dress shirt underneath, along with a blue tie. Noah was dressed with the same, but with a green tie. The two swaggered over to us and smiled, turning back to back with their arms crossed.
"What'cha think?" Noah asked.
Rhea shrugged. "Not bad. You clean up pretty well," she said.
"Back at you," he replied.
Liam slid over to me. "Am I overdressed?"
I turned to face him. "No. You don't look like a hobo the way I expected."
He grinned. "Thank you, m'lady. You look fine as well," he responded. The music changed to a slow dance. "Care for a dance?" he requested, holding his elbow out for me to take hold of.
