It was now 1:55 and I was following Mr. Rivera to the meeting room. I carried a notebook and pen with me to take notes. I struggled keeping up with his quick steps. It was almost like he was mocking me by how I barely stayed up behind him.
We eventually arrived to the meeting room. When he opened the door some people were already sat. Different CEO's and their assistants were sat around the oval table. I felt intimidated at there gazes.
"As soon as the last few people get here we will begin the meeting." Mr. Rivera said to the group of people. Many of them nodded their heads and went back to chatting amongst everyone else. I follow Mr. Rivera up to the front of the room where an empty chair sat at the top of the table. He sat down and started organizing papers. Unsure of what to do I found an empty chair next to a man dressed in a navy suit doing something on his phone and sat down.
At the noise of me sitting he sat up and gave me a smile. "Hi, I'm Dave the owner of Dave and Adam Co. Who are you."
"I-I'm Feena. I'm the assistant to Mr. R-Rivera." I smiled back shyly. I was not the best at having conversations with people.
"You're the assistant to him? God that must be tough. I bet he works you till your dead!"
"I-I've only been working here for a day s-so..."
"I couldn't imagine. I heard he's extremely strict with his employees. Anyways, I am so ready to get out of this boring meeting." I giggled at his eye roll. His joking manner eased my nervousness.
We continued to chat and he would make me giggle ever so often till Mr. Rivera voice echoed through the room. "We will now begin this meeting. Mr. Fulch, can you please explain why you would like to terminate the partnership between our companies." He was looking directly at me though when he said it almost in a angry manner.
A guy stood up who was setting across from me and began to speak. I wrote down what I could despite his scared and shaken voice. Ever so often though Dave would occasionally make a funny face at me or mock what the guy was saying. Despite how hard I tried eventually I let out a small laugh. No one hardly noticed except for the glaring eyes of Mr. Rivera at the head of the table. I looked down immediately as soon as I saw him staring at me.
After who knows how many back and forth conversations and hand cramps from writing so fast the meeting came to a break. Everyone stood up and shook hands with each other. Dave turned to me and smiled while holding out his hand. I did the same and we both shook hands. "You know Feena, you seem like a really nice girl and I would really like to get to know you. Would you like to join me for coffee this weekend? I know we just met and all bu-"
"I-I would love too!" I interrupted accidentally. He seemed like such a nice guy and meeting for coffee didn't seem like such a bad idea.
"Great! How about this Saturday at around 10:00?"
"That s-sounds good."
"Awesome. Oh and here's my business card. It has my number on it just encase there's a change of plans or anything. I'm looking forward to seeing you." He handed me a small white card from his pocket.
"M-Me t-too." Did I really just get asked out on a date?
"Anyways, I should probably get going. It was really nice meeting you Feena. I can't wait to see you Saturday!" He stepped away from me and started walking towards the door.
"M-me either. Goodbye!"
He stepped out and I quickly put my hands on my cheeks to cover the creeping blush. Did I seriously just get asked out. I felt ecstatic and couldn't stop my growing smile. Well that is until Mr. Rivera appeared in front of me with his ever so resting glare.
"U-Um Mr. Rivera. Is there a-anything else you would like me t-to do?" I said trying to avoid eye contact.
"I'll need you to work on Saturday."
"Wh-what?" I asked. "B-but sir, I-I had plans." There was no way I was working on the weekend.
"Well cancel them. One of your first big projects as my assistant will be on Saturday and I expect you too be there."
"S-sir I-" I felt a mixture of anger and sadness. Who was he to say that I had to work on a Saturday. This was my first day on the job and I've already messed up multiple times. How was I supposed to work here if I can't seem to do anything right. "M-Mr. Rivera...I-I will be th-there." I looked down at the ground and told myself to not cry. The last thing I need is him yelling at me for crying.
There was a couple seconds of silence before I saw his shoes slowly walk away. The room was empty and quiet. I sniffled and felt a traitor tear slowly fall down my face. Quickly though I wiped it away and turned around knowing Mr. Rivera would probably get angry at me for wasting time by standing and doing nothing. I was frightened though when I saw him standing by the door staring at me.
"I-I'm S-sorry, sir. I'll get to my office right n-now and get to w-work." I began to walk out the door but as soon as I passed him he spoke up.
"Forget about Saturday, Mrs. Lee. I just remembered that the project is schedule for next Saturday instead." He said looking directly at me.
"R-really?" I asked unbelievingly.
"Yes. Do you take me for a liar, Mrs. Lee?"
"N-no, sir. Of c-course not!" I tried to stop the growing smile on my face. I could actually go with Dave to the coffee shop.
"Good. Go to your office. On your desk is papers that need to be copied, filed, and on my desk by the end of the day." I quickly uttered a small yes sir still not over the excitement that I will be going on my first date Saturday. I turned around and walked briskly over to my office not being able to stop the excited smile on my face.
