Dear diary.
I'm making this shit quick. Cause my mom is making me take this stupid diary with. Last time I wrote in a diary I was in 8th grade with my first "boyfriend." Connor. What was shitty first. Anyways I'm going to Camp Libertas again... actually first time in three years. Thankfully I've convinced one of my closest friends to come with me. Libertas is Latin for freedom. This summer camp is a month full of whatever you want to do as long as it's not illegal. It's the best summer camp ever. That's it.
I chew on the cap of my blue pen, something I've always done when I'm thinking, and debate if I should actually bring it.
"Lindsey! Morgan is almost here!" My mom shouts up the stairs.
I run downstairs holding the pen and diary in one hand, and my phone in the other. Adam, my 14 year old brother, is rummaging through my bag. I kick him in the shin, then push him out of the way. He trips backwards, landing on his butt and groans.
"Next time don't go through my bag." I inform him with a glare.
He scoffs, "It's not like you have anything personal in there."
"Adam, leave your sister alone." My mom says as as she looks through the drawers for extra batteries.
"And by the way... I have bras, tampons, and other girly things in there, so fuck off." I whisper to my brother.
"You're a bitch Aaron." Adam states.
"Adam! Go to your room, you know you can't use that type of language!" My mom shouts at him. He never learns does he?
My mom gives me an are-you-serious-look as she hands me the batteries.
I shrug, "That's his fault. He's the one who asked what personal things I had in there."
She rubs her forehead, "Listen you can't-"
"What's up people?!" Morgan says as she opens my front door and walks in.
I laugh at my best friend, then hug my mom goodbye, She hugs me back, tighter.
"Be safe. Don't drink. Don't do anything stupid." She whispers to me.
I roll my eyes.
"Damn I thought she would never let go!" Morgan says as we pull out of the driveway.
"Hah I know!" I laugh as I turn up the radio.
My phone vibrates, I look at the number. "Do you know this number?" I ask her, then hand her the phone.
"510, that's a Cali area code." She says to me, handing the phone back.
"I don't know anyone from California though."
Morgan's mouth drops, she stares at the phone, then me, then the phone, then me.
"Eyes on the road!" I shout pointing the stop sign she didn't stop at.
"I know who it is! It's your fucking boyfriend from 8th grade!"
"What are you talking about? You mean Connor? That's not possible, he doesn't even know my new number."
"Apparently he does! Now reply to the text!!" Morgan screams.
She's more excited about this than I am.
"What if it's not even him?"
"Well ask first, duh." Morgan replies.
"Oh great. It's him."

Connor @ 6:47 Am

Connor @ 6:52 Am
Hello?
"Oh come on, three text messages! You have to reply." Morgan begs.
Me @ 6:54 Am
Can't talk now I'm driving
"Really? Do you wanna drive because you certainly can."
"I'm sorry Morg , it's just I don't wanna deal with him right now."
She nods and quickly changes the subject.
"So why do you think he all of a sudden misses you?"
A small smile forms on my face and I laugh. "Honestly.. I don't know.
"Wait. Are you happy about it now? Because from what you've told me abut him I didn't think you would be."
I think back to the last day I saw him. Middle of summer. July 12th to be exact. We were sitting on my bed and he was telling me how he was moving with his dad to Texas. I remember being so upset that I didn't even want to look at him, let alone talk to him.
"Lindy" He had his hand on mine. "Look at me."
I refused and continued to look down at my shoes, beat up converse that I wore literally all the time. I finally decided to look up. Our eyes met and first he said sorry, then he started leaning in to kiss me.
I couldn't do it. I couldn't share my first kiss with someone who was about to move. I couldn't have had my first kiss with someone who wasn't a real boyfriend.
I stood up and backed away from him.
"Why would you do that?!" I practically shouted at him.
"What?! Sorry I wanted to kiss you!" He yelled back.
"You can't just do that and then leave."
"Yes I can! Quit being a stubborn little girl!" He got defensive real quick.
"We've been "dating" 2 weeks. We aren't in a real relationship." I finally said to him.
He laughed, "So I guess I meant nothing to you when you meant the world to me." He got up with clenched fists and left.
"Hey. Lindsey?"
I shook my head and looked at her, "Yeah?"
She looked worried, "Are you okay? You look awfully sad."
"Yeah. I was just thinking about the last time I saw Connor."
"Well I've never heard the whole story behind that, but by the way you're looking I don't think we should talk about it."
"Yeah let's not." I reply.
I met Morgan in the 9th grade and we've been close ever since.
I never really wanted to tell her about him because just because he wasn't right for me doesn't mean he couldn't be right for her.
Because I knew one of these days he would come back.
"So how are you and Eric doing?" She asks, changing the subject again.
"We're good, did you know our 3 month anniversary is coming up."
"Awh that's so cute." She replies.
"Right though?! But I'll be at camp so we can't celebrate together. "
"Well shit. That sucks."
"Yeah It does but it'll be fine plus he-" I begin to say but my phone's buzzing interrupts me.
Connor @ 7:39 Am
Good news! There was room at Camp Libertas and I'm going.
"Fuck my life."
"What did he say?" Morgan asks.
I tell her and she starts laughing, "That's so ironic."
me @ 7:42 Am
Great. See u there.
"This is going to suck."
"Yeah well it's only a month." Morgan says trying to make me feel better.
"Yeah only 31 days, only 4 weeks." I say back while turning up the radio even more.
A few minutes later we arrive at Camp.
"Damn! This place is so different!" Morgan squeals.
"Damn is right. Let's go talk to the Camp director and find out where our cabin is." I say taking Morgan's arm, heading for the main building.
"Hello! Welcome to Camp Libertas! My name is Christine Samuels, what are your names?" The red headed, peppy camp director says to us.
Morgan and I introduce ourselves, then follow Christine to our cabin.
"You will be sharing with two other girls, so be nice!" She says in her weird peppy voice, then leaves to greet others.
Two girls walk out of the bathroom laughing holding iPhone 6s in each of their manicured hands.
They stop laughing when they see us, the tall blonde one looks me up and down then wrinkles her nose in disgust.
"Uh hey. I'm Morgan and that's Lindsey." Morgan introduces us.
"Did I ask for their names?" The shorter but also blonde girl says to the other.
"No. So I have no idea why they are talking to us."
"Come on. Let's go find Drake and Michael." The tall one says to the shirt one.
As they exit the door Morgan says to me, "Why do we have to share a cabin with two bitches?"
I shrug then plop down on the bed.
"You hungry?" I ask after a moment.
She nods, we both leave the cabin and head towards the Mess Hall.
"Oatmeal and toast. The usual breakfast." Morgan groans.
My phone vibrates again.
"It's Connor again."
Connor @ 8:19 Am
Come find me ;)
"Holy fuck. What a creep."
Me @ 7:36 PM

Connor @ 7:36 PM
I'm wearing a navy blue Hollister shirt. ;)
"Morg do you see someone in a navy blue Hollister shirt who may or may not be winking a lot."
She looks around then points to a far corner, "Yeah why?"
"Guess who it is." I say with a frown.
"No fucking way." Morgan shrieks. "It's Connor."
