"You should try to be kind of nice to him." Morgan whispers to me as we make our way over to Connor.
"How am I suppose to do that? He's the one who started this mess!"
"Just pretend nothing ever happened in 8th grade." She suggests.
That's easier said than done but I guess that's worth a try, I'll just try to forget about it for a while.
"Hey Lindy."
I look to see a totally different Connor. More muscle. Better looks. Less geeky-ness. But same green and grey eyes.
"Don't call me Lindy anymore. and hi."
"Okay... well...how have you been? Anything new happen?"
He clearly doesn't remember the 8th grade.
"Good. Yeah I guess."
"Like what?"
"I'm dating Eric." I shrug.
Connors expression hardens.
"Ok... well what have you been up to Morgan?"
Morgan looks up from her phone.
She raises her eyebrows at Connor, like she doesn't approve of him already.
"What did you say?" She sighed.
Connor looks around the cafeteria, he scratches the back of his head and lets out a sigh.
"I should get going and uh check out my uh cabin..." His voice trails off.
Then he leaves.
"Ok, umm bye." I try.
Morgan leaves too mumbling something about her phone about to die and being in the middle of level 234 of Candy Crush.
Not even going to wait for me? Whatever, I'd rather sit here by myself. That was a complete and utter lie.
After a few minutes everyone starts to leave. Eventually I'm the only one in the cafeteria.
Sighing, I look around, now noticing how different the place is. The walls are freshly painted and the tables look new.
Everything seems new actually.
I think back to a few years ago and remember something. How could I have forgotten?
In the summer of 7th grade, I wrote a love and hate list on the back of a poster that had been hanging up for a long time, even years before.
I Walk around looking for the poster of the familiar four girls laughing by a campfire.
Just when I thought it was gone I spotted it in the back of a cafeteria. I smile to myself and rip it off the wall laying it on a table
I read the back.
Love-
1. The color pink
2. Disney channel
3. High School Musical
4. Boys
5. Camp
6. Sleepovers
"Wow." I murmur to myself. We were so naive back then.
HATE:
1. The color black
2. Reading
3. Spiders
4. Eric
5. Diet coke
7. One piece bathing suits
I laugh to myself, "That's ironic."
I hear a sudden collapsing sound and whip my head up from my gaze on the poster. Only to find a very flustered guy flailing his arms on the ground.
I let out a snort as an attempt to hold in laughter but ultimately fail because here it comes sputtering out, full blow. I double over and start laughing uncontrollably.
I don't know what has gotten into me, but I for sure needed a good laugh.
Especially after what happened with Connor and Morgan; blowing me off like they did on our first day back at camp!
"So are you just going to keep laughing at my clumsiness, or are you going to help me up?" He chuckles and starts to dig his way out from all the little plastic buckets.
I quickly regain my consciousness and stumble over to help him up.
"Sorry. I didn't mean to laugh at you like that but-"
"No, it's fine." He cut me off. "I would have done the same to you if it was you laying on the ground.
"Nice to know." I awkwardly mumble underneath my breath and let my eyes travel any where but to his.
"Your name?" I vaguely heard the end of his sentence due to the fact that I was thinking hard about anything but this awkward moment right now.
"Huh?" I finally look up at his face and I'm surprised by how captivating his eyes are. They are like that really pretty blue color that looks like the oceans of Fiji. And with his almost black hair his eye are even more well eye popping.
"What's your name? I don't think I got it yet." He smirks.
Cocky much? I think to myself before replying, "Oh uhh. Lindsey, my name is Lindsey. I don't believe I got yours yet, either." I smirk right back at him. Two can play this game.
"Noah."
He reaches out to shake my hand.
I shake back and then quickly try walking away before things get more awkward.
"Oh hey wait, since you're here, I wanna show you something."
I turn around and see him fumbling with something. Is that my phone how did he get that?!
I put my hand over my back pocket.
"What the fuck?" I shriek.
Noah's Fiji blue eyes fill with embarrassment and his cheeks turn bright pink.
He holds up his arms, "Woah, calm down I was just gonna give it to you it was on the table."
I walk up to him and grab my phone.
"Oh right..sorry, today was kinda a rough day." I sigh.
"It's cool, so do you wanna see something cool?" He exclaims.
I stuff my phone back in my pocket and nod. Noah reaches in his shorts pocket and pulls out a key.
I raise and eyebrow at his action. Then I find myself staring at his gorgeous eyes.
I quickly shake my head forgetting about the thought, remembering I have a boyfriend and look down at the floor.
He chuckles, then ushers me to follow him. He leads me into the kitchen.
I follow him into the back where there's a locked door. He unlocks the door and carefully pushes it open.
As he stuffs the key into his back pocket he whispers, "This is where they keep the good food."
I stood there in the doorway a few moments completely astonished before stepping inside and looking around.
The place was filled with snacks, desserts, and candy. This was heaven, I don't think I could have lasted the whole camp without any types of sweets.
"Take what you want, but no Skittles. He stops his sentence and looks at me a moment.
"Those are mine" He finally whispers back with a smirk.
I can't believe this I hit the Mother-load running into this Noah kid. I gasp in excitement and take a Milky Way, twix, and to be funny I take a king sized pack of skittles.
"Now they are mine." I reply with a just as annoying smirk.
He laughs, his eyes twinkle when he laughs.
"Come on let's go before people start looking for us." Noah says in a hushed tone.
We both come out of the kitchen and run out of the cafeteria.
I take a look around and I don't see any kids or camp directors.
"They are at the bonfire." Noah says, almost like he knew what I was thinking.
That must be new because I don't remember those.
I nod not daring to look into is eyes, I don't want to take another chance of being put under the spell of them..
A beautiful spell- gah! What am I thinking?! I need to stop this. I have a boyfriend.
I decide to leave him and go find my other friends. After taking a few steps I realize that I didn't like it when my friends ditched me so I probably shouldn't just leave him like that.
I turn around, expecting to see Noah smirking back at me but I see that he already left for the lake, where the bonfire is.
Kind of embarrassed, I run back to my cabin and hide my candy under my mattress.
I understand that I haven't taken one good look at my cabin so I walk around the small room taking it in before I go to the campfire.
"Same wallpapers, same bunk beds, same blankets, different people." I say out loud to myself.
I sit back down on my bed, which is luckily the bottom bed of the bunk. I don't necessarily trust these old rickety bed frames. I check my phone for the time. 8:43 The fire should be over around 9:00. Or so I'm guessing.
"So you finally figured out how things work around here" I hear Noah say, probably with a smirk on his face.
I roll my eyes at force myself to look at him. "What the hell is that supposed to mean? I've been coming here for years, I know how things work around here."
"Well, I was talking about the new cabin arrangements." He sheepishly says back his eyes roaming around the cabin.
My cheeks flame in embarrassment. "Oh, umm sorry I didn't know."
Maybe I have been too hard on him. Today is just not one of my days.
"I'm sorry. So how'd you even know this was my cabin?" I chuckle but blush from embarrassment.
"Never mind that." He lightly shakes his head and says, "Come on, I came by to take my buddy to the bonfire."
"Excuse me?" My eyebrows raise in surprise. "You heard me, now come on." He replies while waving a hand over his shoulder as he starts walking off.
I quickly run out of the room. being the sissy I am, afraid of the dark.
Once catching up to him I whisper, "If you want me to be your buddy your gonna have to try a little harder, a trip to candy mountain isn't going to win me over." He quietly laughs and I quickly run ahead of him.
Once I make my way past the cabins, I can see the actual bonfire.
"Wow." I mutter.
I stand there completely amazed.
I can see kids running around playing tag, and older kids gossiping.
I smile to myself, surprisingly I'm quite happy I came to camp.
Morgan runs up to me with a stick with a burned marshmallow on the end of it.
"Oh my goodness I have been looking everywhere for you!!" She cries with worry.
"Not every where." I mumble.
She offers me the black crispy marshmallow, I decline and she tosses it on the ground. Noah finally catches up and walks up behind me.
Morgan, now noticing Noah raises her eyebrow. I smile a little, then before I can say anything Morgan pulls me away leading me to closer to the fire to roast marshmallows.
When we travel far enough from him, Lucy shrieks in my ear.
"Holy crap, he is hot!"
I put my hand up to my ear.
"Yeah he's also cocky and seems like he could get into trouble."
I add.
Morgan replies back with an "Oh." I look away at the lake. The water reminds me of Noah's eyes.
I picture his smirk in my mind. Oh god, not again, why does this keep happening to me.
"What are you smiling about?" Morgan asks as she playfully jabs me in the stomach.
I stick out my butt and bend away from her playful tickles.
"Stop Morg!" I manage to get out through my re-occurring giggles.
"Fine I'll just tell you." I knew she wouldn't stop prying anytime soon.
Once I regain all my strength from laughing I let out. "I think I might have a small crush on Noah."
"But just a small one"
I squeeze my eyes shut and hold my breath waiting for her reply.
"That's an understatement!" she laughs and Noah walks up beside her.
"What's got her in such a giggly mood" He asks totally oblivious to what's happening which of course sets Morgan off again.
"More like who..." She whispers.
"Sooo, I brought my buddy a marshmallow!" He smiles brightly down at me and juts his hand out with a perfectly made marshmallow on the end of the stick.
