"Breakfast!"
I jolt up in bed, almost peeing my pants.
Then rub my eyes which hurt from crying so hard last night.
I see Morgan on the floor laughing her head off. "Get. Shoes. On. " Morgan says in between laughs. She stops when she saw my swollen eyes.
"Hey what happened?"
"Nothing. It's nothing." I mumble.
I slide in flip flops and grab my phone and earbuds.
She gets off the floor, wiping off her hands on her pants and asks.
"Aren't gonna get dressed?" She looks me up and down.
Sometimes I wish she wasn't such a Girly girl perfectionist.
I shake my head.
It's not like my pajamas were embarrassing like Morgan's footsies she wears at home. I just wore shorts and a tank top.
"At least let me brush your hair!" She pleads.
"Hurry up." I give her a small smile.
"I need to call Eric." I say as I start dialing his phone number.
Morgan brushes my hair quickly ties it up in a French braid.
"Why?"
"I need to ask him something about Connor."
The phone rang once then stopped.
Why wasn't he answering?
Frustrated I walk out of the cabin, with Morgan following me silently.
The sun was already up, which made it feel like 100°.
The cafeteria luckily has air conditioning. I find a mostly empty table and wait as Morgan gets her food. I don't have an appetite.
I put in my earbuds and zone out while listening to my favorite band. Crossing my arms on the table I lay my head down.
Someone's hand softly runs across my back.
I tilt my head to the side to see Noah sitting next to me with a concerned look on his face.
He keeps his hand in my back.
"What's wrong Lindy?"
I grit my teeth, "Please don't call me that, Noah."
"I'm sorry Lindsey." He gives me a pout face.
I let out a small laugh, and sit up.
Noah scoots closer to me, his arm moving to my lower back then around my hip.
He turns and looks at me, "Do you want to talk about it?"
"I don't know Noah..."
I look away for a second and see Connor standing there watching me. He looks at Noah and his arm around me. I tense up.
"Oh god. Shit." Noah moved his hand away from me and scoots back to his original spot. "You have a boyfriend."
He runs his hands through his hair. "How could I not know?" He looks at me. "I'm so sorry."
"Noah."
"I can't believe myself."
"Noah."
"I'm gonna go." He stands up.
"Noah!"
He sighs, "What."
"Sit down."
He sits.
"Listen, it's my fault I didn't tell you I had a boyfriend. But that's not what I'm upset about. And no that guy, Connor, is not my boyfriend."
"I still shouldn't have been so-"
"So sweet, so generous, so nice."
I finish for him. "Actually you've treated me better than any other guy has."
"Woah, What is going on?" Morgan interrupts.
"Well." Noah says, "it's a long story."
I laugh, "Yeah.. that."
The 3 of us look around awkwardly, sitting in silence for a few minutes.
The peppy redhead comes along and starts talking to Noah.
"Noah are you going to eat breakfast?" She asks.
"No I'm not hungry."
"Well you have to." She says.
"I said I'm not hungry,...Mom." He says in a monotone voice and almost has to force the last word out.
Morgan and I stare at each other. Shell shocked. Neither of us wanted to look at Mrs. Samuels or Noah.
Eventually she leaves but that just leaves silent Noah sitting there awkwardly.
"I'm leaving."
And with that he gets up without saying goodbye and leaves the cafeteria.
"His mom?!" Morgan and I shriek simultaneously.
"Dude you should go talk to him about that." She says. "He seemed pretty pissed."
"Yeah I guess I should."
I mean after all he wanted to help me when I was upset so why shouldn't I?
"I'm gonna stay here and eat, you go find him."
"K."
I walk out of the cafeteria, scratching my head, I ponder where to check first.
The lake? The park? His cabin?
My best bet would be his cabin.
"Knock knock." I say when I get to his door.
"I'm busy." I hear him say.
"Noah let's talk." I say before I enter his cabin.
It's a normal sized cabin but instead of two twin sized bunk beds he has one queen sized bed in the middle of the room. I guess that's the perks of having your mom as camp director.
"Hey." I mumble.
"Sup"
"Can I sit down?" I ask.
He moves over to the far right side of the bed. He's laying on his back with his arms folded on his stomach.
I lay down on the far left side of the bed.
"I want you to know that my boyfriend isn't answering my calls or anything."
"Okay."
"Noah. Come on. What's wrong?"
"Noah! Honey are you in here?" His moms voice was close. I get up to lock the cabin door and shut the curtains.
When I get back to the bed Noah is sitting up staring at me with a What-do-you-think-you're-doing look.
I sit in front of him, "Now we can actually talk." I whisper.
He smirks. "What do you want to talk about?" Noah whispers.
"Noah? Did you lock the door?"
His moms is at the door knocking on it.
"Her. Can we talk about her?" I whisper.
"Yeah it's simple, she's not my mom."
"Oh."
"My mom left us a few years ago, she said she couldn't handle it anymore."
"Oh."
"Christine, she treats me like shit. She doesn't care about me. And I hate her."
"Noah, I'm so sorry."
"Yeah. Well it's not your fault." He shrugs. "So why were you upset earlier?"
"Connor. He uh he came to my cabin late last night and tried apologizing for something that happened 3 years ago."
"Then what happened?" Noah asks.
"I didn't do anything so he grabbed my arms and that's when I realized all the cuts and scars on his wrists."
"Oh."
"It's my fault. He did that to himself." I let out a deep sigh.
"Hey you know what? I think we could both use a hug right now." Noah opens his arms wide and shows me a huge goofy grin.
I Immediately come into his arms. Without warning he leans back and I fall on top of him. But honestly I don't care I'm just glad that we both have someone to talk to.
We lay there for awhile, in silence. But not weird or awkward silence more like peaceful or happy silence.
Eventually I just go back to laying on the bed.
"Hey is Christine still out there?" I ask.
"I don't know and I don't care."
"Should we be getting back soon?"
"I guess if you want to." Noah replies.
"Not really but Morgan is probably looking for me by now."
"Okay, we can go."
I stand up first and wait by the door for him.
He gets his shoes on and then walks over to me.
"First, I'm glad we became friends." Noah says.
"Second, thanks for talking to me making sure I'm okay."
He steps closer to me and puts his hands in my hips.
"And third." He leans in close to sets his lips on mine and pulls me even closer to him.
I close my eyes and kiss him back, one of my hand rests on his shoulder while the other runs through his hair. We continue to kiss.
Then a knock on the door interrupts us.
We both slowly tilt our heads back and open our eyes. That kiss filled my whole body with this feeling that I've never had before. I can't even begin to describe how I felt.
"Wow." I murmur.
"We should probably see who's knocking." Noah whispers in my ear.
"Oh right." I say as my cheeks fill with embarrassment.
We both open the door and there stands Connor.
Yet again.
