a/n; ok so all the characters in the chapter who aren't from pjo/hoo/toa are from be more chill. (side note- the only people who don't know theyre demigods in this are rich and jeremy!)

Michael's POV
"-And, as some of you may have seen on the news yesterday, the Greek gods have revealed themselves to be real-"

I sat up straight suddenly, a shocked look on my face and made eye contact with Jake across the room. He sent me a look that said 'did you know?' and I sent him a look that I hoped conveyed my confusion.

Ok, let me back up a bit.

Hi, I'm Michael Mell. I'm 18, I attend Middleborough High, and I'm a demigod. My dad, Dionysus, is a Greek god. So my confusion wasn't around the whole 'oh my god(s), the Greek gods are real???' thing. It was around the whole 'the Greek gods revealed themselves???' thing.

The only reason they'd do that is-

"Apparently, something called the Mist had been keeping us from seeing into their world. But now the Mist has fallen-"

Ah. That explained it.

The fact that the Mist had fallen made the situation a thousand times worse.

Now my friends and I were at risk of being exposed as demigods. And depending on how mortals decided to feel about demigods, we'd either become extremely popular (which Jake, Chloe, and Brooke already sort of were) or be forced to flee the area. Great. It'd be worse than the ecstasy rumours that were still following us around.

Gods, I really envied Rich and Jeremy at that moment.

Rich and Jeremy were the only two mortals in our friend group. Three quarters of our friend group were demigods. Which only put us at a higher risk of being exposed.

Fuck.

I tried to put it out of my head and focus on whatever the teacher was saying, but I kept coming back to it.

And I couldn't help but overthink every possible reaction Jeremy and Rich would have.

Lunch was.... awkward, to say the least.

Jenna was on her phone, trying to reply to the bombard of texts and tweets she got, asking if she knew who at our school were demigods.

Chloe was spacing out, which was unusual for her. She kept poking at her food and staring off into the distance, seemingly deep in thought.

Jake was managing to keep his cool, and was holding an animated conversation with Rich, but it was obvious his heart wasn't in it. He had this look in his eyes that showed how distracted he was.

Christine was talking quietly with Brooke, both of them glancing around as if they were scared of being overheard. Every so often, they'd pause and wait for someone to walk pass before continuing their conversation.

Jeremy sat quietly, occasionally butting into Jake and Rich's conversation, but it was obvious he was concerned about everyone at the table.

Operation try to stay cool and pretend the news didn't bother us: failed.

I was considering getting up and sitting somewhere else to avoid the awkward atmosphere, until someone slid into the seat beside me.

"Michael, Jake, Chloe, Brooke, Jenna, Christine, people I don't know." Percy said, nodding at each person at the table.

"What the fuck are you doing here?" I hissed, secretly grateful that Percy had managed to break the atmosphere.

"It's a little complicated."

Just as Chloe opened her mouth to say something, the cafeteria doors burst open.

I turned around and immediately understood what he meant by complicated.

"What the fuck is that?" Rich asked, an exaggerated disgusted look on his face.

"An empousa and her trainees." Percy replied before standing up.

"Son of Poseidon! Thank you for being us here! Now there's enough male demigods for all of my trainees and I to feast!" The lead empousa declared, giggling.

I exchanged a confused look with Jake. As far as we knew, the only male demigods in the room were Percy, Jake, and I. Maybe a freshman was a demigod.

Despite our confusion, we stood up.

Percy pulled out Riptide and uncapped it, and I pulled my dagger out of my boot. Jake's weapon was in his locker, but Chloe pulled her dagger out of... somewhere, and threw it to him. (I honestly don't know where, but knowing her it was probably her bra.)

Christine and Jenna ran off, hopefully to get their weapon and Jake's, and we readied ourselves for a battle.

Today was definitely a competitor for the spot of Worst Day of Michael's Life.

On one hand- there were only four empousa, and there were (at least) seven demigods currently in this school. On the other hand- Jeremy and Rich and everyone else in the cafeteria now knew we were demigods.

I tried to ignore the situation and fight the empousa, but already we were struggling.

I almost sighed in relief when one of the empousa disintegrated to reveal Christine holding a sword, but I immediately had to jump in between Jake and an empousa to save his ass.

Once all the empousai were dead, I finally let myself look over to the table where Rich and Jeremy were still sitting, shocked.

"I... Uh... We have to go, but we'll be back soon, and I'll text-" I started, but Percy cut me off.

"Actually, they have to come with us. They're both demigods."

"I.... What?" Jeremy gaped at us, and I just smiled at him.

"Come on guys," I grabbed Jeremy's arm and pulled him up, and Rich was quick to follow us as we walked off.

"So, you're all demigods?" Rich asked as we walked over to our cars.

"Yeah. I'm a son of Dionysus, Jake is a son of Hermes, Christine is a daughter of Apollo, Brooke is a daughter of Iris, Chloe is a daughter of Aphrodite, and Jenna is a daughter of Hecate."

"...Huh."

Rich ended up being a son of Tyche, and Jeremy was a son of Aphrodite.

The Mist being down made getting by a little hard, but otherwise our lives continued as usual.

And that was how Rich and Jeremy met Percy Jackson.
