They were walking in the park, hand in hand. Double dates were neither Kris' thing, nor Elena's, but since Sehun had practically dragged the two with him and Junmyeon, they didn't have another choice than to just follow the ordeal.
Elena had never really talked about her family other than her brother Oh Sehun. And Kris never pressured her to it either. Not because he didn't care, but because he knew her relationship with her father and her step-mother. But Kris thought it was finally time to let her know.
Kris was deep in thought when he felt a tug on his sleeve.
"Do you have something to tell me?" Elena stared up at him with wide eyes, her bottom lip caught between her teeth. She looked adorable and Kris almost kissed her right then and there. But he held himself back.
Kris always wondered how they could feel each other even without having a proper verbal conversation.
"Well, just wanted to know that if those punks are bothering you again." He said, looking at their intertwined hands.
"No. They're just a bunch of cowards. After you guys scared them off, they didn't even show up again." She giggled, making Kris' heart go on a skyrocketing once again. He almost feared of having high BP because he felt his heart beating incredibly fast whenever he was with her. And that was, a lot of time.
"Is that it?" She asked again, looking at him with a demanding look on her face. He felt himself broke into a sweat under that stare.
"Uh... H-How's your dad?" He finally let it out, praying to god that it wouldn't make her mad.
"What about him?" She looked at Kris, frowning.
"Did... Did you forgive him yet?" Kris dared to ask despite the look of his girlfriend's face.
Elena stared at him for a whole minute before finally replying.
"Sehun told you, didn't he?" It was a question but felt more like a statement. So he waited patiently.
"...I-I don't think I would ever be able to fully forgive him." She admitted sadly, shifting her gaze to something far away. "I mean, It's not like I don't want to but... it's complicated. After sixteen years, I can't just magically accept him now. I spent most of the time alone at home, having nobody to talk to when he was with his new wife and his son, enjoying his life. Mom was barely home with her job and when she was home, she always talked about dad. It pissed me off, really. It's hard to live your life knowing that nobody really cared enough to even ask you how you feel." Kris didn't expect that, he didn't expect her to open up that fast. But he couldn't help but feel happy that she did.
Kris didn't know what to say, but he felt the need to prove her that he was there with her, willing to give his everything and that he would never leave her alone. But he didn't know how to say those things, he never really knew how to express his feelings anyway, but he desperately wanted to say something.
"I-It's okay. Let the time heal the wounds. And... Y-You have me now. I won't be going anywhere." Kris smiled at her, tightening his grip on her hand and squeezing a little.
"Yeah. I have you. And Sehun too. That idiot won't survive without me." She let out a soft chuckle and gave a quick kiss on his cheek, blushing right after doing that.
"What was that? What are we, twelve?" Kris squealed, making her blush go deeper.
"Let me show you how adults do it, babe." He said again in a low, husky voice, leaning down to her height.
"GO AWAY!" She grunted and pushed him away, laughing, earning a loud groan from the latter.
Kris was happy with his life. And he wanted her to be happy with her life too. He knew Elena was suffering inside, and he hoped that someday, she would be able to forgive her father and accept him. Maybe she wasn't ready for that yet. But she would. Someday. And Kris intended to be there when it finally happened!
