Emily sighed, relaxing as she looked at the baby in the surgeon's arms. This had been considerably worse than with her first two kids, which was curious, because she had thought that it would be better. She closed her eyes, leaning her head back.

Then, her husband said, "Do you think we should pay to hold the baby?"

She looked up at him. "You can," she responded. "But you  don't have to. I just want to rest right now."

He nodded silently, then left the room so that Emily could sleep.

Later, a nurse was handed the baby. She grinned. "You should take off your gloves while I'm holding him," she said to the doctor.

"I know, I'm going to," responded the doctor.

The nurse took the child, and she smiled even more-- or, rather, she started to smile. She felt a very big shock everywhere that she had touched him. It happened just as the doctor, removing his gloves, said, "Cute little thing, isn't he?"

"Shocky little thing," replied the nurse. "He just gave me quite a big shock."

The doctor raised an eyebrow. "That's interesting," he said. "I've never seen that happen before. But it doesn't matter. It happens. You'll be fine."

The nurse nodded. "Okay," she said.

Miranda watched her child being brought into the hospital room. The nurse that was carrying him looked amused. "He shocks everyone that he touches, so be careful," she advised.

"Just give me him," Miranda said.

The nurse silently handed him over.

Miranda accepted the baby, and she frowned, as he did, indeed, shock her.

The nurse left the room, and Miranda tilted her head to the side. The fact that the child shocked everyone he touched seemed very suspicious.

She shook her head. No. That wasn't it. The experiment had been nearly ten years ago! How could only this child have powers? The kid she had a few years ago--not long after the experiment, in fact--didn't have anything strange about her at all.

And yet, that had been a pretty big shock.

She reoriented the child to hold him a little bit better, and she felt a bigger shock. It actually hurt, and she nearly dropped him.

She stared at the baby, then she grabbed her phone off the table beside her. She called her husband, and asked for him to bring her blue bracelet. He agreed to bring it, and asked why. She said that she would explain it later.

_

Ruby closed her eyes. Her baby was being brought to her now. She sighed. She didn't like that she would have to pay for it, but she wanted to hold the baby.

Ruby sat up as a nurse entered the room. "Here's your baby," she said.

Ruby smiled. "Thank you," she said. She took the baby, then screamed and nearly dropped her.

The poor nurse looked terrified for a moment; then, she said, "I-I forgot to tell you about that. The baby shocks you if you touch her. That's why I'm wearing gloves."

Ruby looked down at the baby. "So...I can't hold her?" she asked.

"Here, you can borrow these," said the nurse, peeling off her gloves. They were made of a soft fabric, so Ruby put them on.
