Kitara Takeda
Just before dawn, I wake the others. I volunteered to stay on guard so Kiba and the others could rest. Shino insisted I switch with him halfway through but I chose not to. I couldn't sleep even if I wanted to. I almost lost Kiba and he has no idea how I feel about him. I'm just lucky that I'd smelled the poison and was able to identify it. At least we have the matching scroll now so we won't have to search anymore. All we have to do is book it to the tower without dying. Kiba might not be able to move very well though, so our speed could be affected. I plan on having Shino help me support him if we need to and have Hinata guide us using her Byakugan. Simple enough, right?
"How are you feeling?" I ask softly as I silently land next to Kiba.
He looks up at me with a lazy grin and tells me that he's fine, thanks to me.
"Don't read too much into it. I only did what I had to do. If you die, we can't continue on." I mumble with a small smirk.
My eyes widen as he grabs my arm and knocks me off balance so I fall into his arms and he pulls me into a tight hug. I relax into the hug and take a deep breath, inhaling his scent on the jacket. I don't know what I would have done if I lost you. Kiba tenses and I quietly curse as I realize my words had escaped my brain, coming out in a whisper that only he could hear.
"I'm not going anywhere. You wouldn't survive without me." He chuckles before pulling me into a quick kiss, then we separate.
Being intimate is a dangerous thing in a place like this. If anyone saw, we've just painted targets on our backs.
"Alright guys, let's get going." I call out as I help Kiba get to his feet. "How's your leg?"
"It hurts like a bitch but I can manage."
"We'll try it like this but if it becomes too much, Shino and I will support you. Hinata is going to lead since she has the sight advantage."
"Before we go, we need a weapons count. We've been running low." Shino cuts in.
"I have... six kunai and a handful of shuriken." Hinata says as she stuffs her hands back into her pouches.
"I have ten kunai."
I look to Kiba who says he has two pouches of kunai. I then notice everyone's eyes on me. I'm not even sure what I have anymore honestly. I sigh and dig in my hoodie pocket, pulling out six kunai, then go through each other pocket I'd sewn into the inside, producing more kunai and an exploding tag or two. I lift the edge of my skirt slightly to reveal nine senbon tucked into a garter, there's the katana I have on my back that's now properly stored outside of my clothing. I raise a brow as I pull a butter knife out of my sandal as well.
"I think that's everything..." I mumble as I look up to find them staring at me wide eyed. "What? I wish I had remembered to bring a few more things."
We're making pretty good time. By Shino's estimate, we should be able to make it to the tower by nightfall if we aren't stopped before then. I just want to get us all to safety in general, but I want Kiba to be able to safely heal before whatever happens next. I wanted to heal him with my chakra after I countered the poison but he wouldn't let me, insisting that I needed it for the rest of our exam. It is true but I can't help but worry about it. I love him, after all. I curse and draw my katana as I jump ahead of Shino and Kiba, blocking the chained scythe heading toward them.
"What now?" I whine. "I just want to shower and drink some coffee."
My eyes widen as I follow the scythe's path back to the owner, a ninja I'd encountered during the first exam. He approached me while everyone was distracted and pinned me to the wall, expressing his desire to dismember me slowly. Before I could retaliate, the guards pulled him away and threatened to disqualify his team. I curse and rush toward him with Hinata by my side, hoping to end this quickly. I trust Shino to protect Kiba despite their stupid rivalry. I'm not even sure what it's about but they'd better put it aside. I jump the blade as it whistles through the air toward my legs and grab Hinata's arm as she pulls me out of the chain's path.
"Hello again, Darling. Oh how I've missed you." He croons, his bright blue eyes staring me down.
"Men are such pigs." I growl. "I'll enjoy ending you."
Our blades clash loudly as we counter each attack, never landing an actual blow on each other. Hinata is behind him keeping his teammates at bay. I hear her cry out and hiss as his blade nicks my shoulder.
"Your blood smells intoxicating. I wanted to play with you for a while, but I don't know if I can resist." He chuckles and my skin crawls.
I slice my sword toward him, delighting as it tears into his arm but I'm suddenly knocked from the tree limb. Stupid substitution! I curse as I roll to catch myself and spot him waiting for me on the ground. I stab the katana into a tree limb and the sudden stop causes one of my hands to slip from the handle while I hear a loud pop in my other shoulder. That's lovely.
"Takeda! Are you okay?" I hear from somewhere above.
"Take care of Hinata, I'm fine!" I call back before dropping to the ground, leaving my sword behind.
I draw two kunai and pray this will be enough to keep me safe. We exchange blows again and I'm still able to hold my own. At least I thought I was... My back slams into a tree trunk, knocking the breath out of me. He appears in front of me before I can react and he pins me to the tree using the swords on his back. As I open my eyes, I see the scythe coming straight toward me, a gleeful sadistic grin on his face. I reach up and start to pull on the swords but I know I won't be able to free myself in time. I'm sorry... Kiba!
"No!" My eyes widen as Kiba appears in front of me, taking the hit to his abdomen. "No, no, no you stupid son of a bitch! Why the hell would you do that?! You better not die on me or I swear I will kick your ass!"
