Chapter 2 - Surprise?

I got home from school. That was hella tiring. I never thought that this day would be very fun.

"Mom, I'm back!"

"Oh welcome back sweetie, you done buying books?"

"Yeah, we also bought some notebooks and other school supplies."

I got home almost lunch time already. Just in time since mother is already cooking food. I am happy that Kylie would be studying in the same university that we go to. At least this time she'll be near to us. Oh! I wonder if mom knows that Kylie is going to the same university with me. Ohhh right... she's the one who said "have you heard the news"

"Mom, why didn't you told me that Kylie is going to study in the same university I go to?"

"She is?"

"Wait what?"

"What do you mean what?"

"I mean... you didn't know about that?"

"Of course I don't"

"Then what do you mean a while ago?"

"What? Listen honey, I don't know what you were talking about."

"I mean.. you said to me 'have you heard of the news' just a while ago when I got down."

"Oh! That one!"
"Hmm, that wasn't about Kylie."
"But still, its good that you're both studying in the same university."

"Oh.. I just thought you knew about that."
"What is this "news" that you were talking about anyways?"

"You'll know it soon, its a surprise you know?"

"Fine" I sighed out of disappointment

I thought mom knew about that, but anyways, its fine even if she doesn't.

"I'm proud of you."

"What?"

"You're being responsible already."
"I can't believe my little Chloe is growing up already" she said it with a giggle
"Back then, you're so boyish, look at you now, you're now a fine lady."

"Mom.." I smiled at her

I'm so happy that mom is finally happy for me. I can't believe I actually changed a lot, I'm so proud of myself.

Few minutes later and mom finished cooking. We ate lunch together as usual, then I helped her out washing the dishes. Afterwards I went towards my room.

"Mom, I'm staying in my room!"

I left mom in the living room, she's busy watching her favorite afternoon show. I jumped back to my bed. Feels comfy, ugh, I could fall asleep any time. "Responsible" huh? Well.. I am responsible, its just that I am too lazy to do things. I need to get rid of my laziness, or else, things would be very hard for me. I scanned my whole room, I looked for something to do.

"Oh there you are!"

My laptop! Yes, finally, I have something to do. I got my laptop and went back to bed. I nearly forgot, I stood up again and roamed my room. I'm looking for something... oh there it is. My stuffs for making digital art, they're... kinda dusty. I forgot when was the last time I used them. Well it doesn't matter, as long as they are working, I'm good to go. I drew and drew random things, took me a while when I finally thought of something good to draw.

"Maybe this scenery would do.."

I looked outside my window, remembering that time when I woke up early. That scenery was beautiful, foggy, cold, quiet, and it has this touch of... isolation. I can't imagine it, it's too hard, I guess I need to see it first. I figured out that I need to draw it tomorrow, early morning. Out of my disappointment, I just looked back on my past drawings, wow, I can see my improvements.

Ding!

A sound popped up from a distant.

Oh my phone, someone texted me? I'm too lazy to stand up and get it, so maybe I'll look at it later.

Ding!
Ding!
Ding!

What now? Is this something urgent? Ugh.. I guess I have to read it then. I stood up and got my phone from my desk. I checked the messages that I got, first one's from Sam. Then the other messages was from Kylie. I checked their messages, Sam's first.

-Yo Chloe! This is John! Get to the park!-

What? I checked Kylie's message afterwards.

-Hey young lady!-
-Can you do me a favor and go to the park right now?-
-Please? Please? Please?-

What now? Ugh, I'm planning to sleep this afternoon but... fine, I'll go.

I grabbed my sling bag and went downstairs.

"Mom, I'm going out for a while."

"Where to sweetie?"

"Park, Kylie wants to see me there"

"Ok take care"

I didn't rushed out, it's kinda hot outside. I checked the time, seriously, what are they doing outside at this time? It's 2:28 in the afternoon! It's hot outside! Never mind, Kylie wants to see me so, I guess I have to make this an exception.

Ding!

I checked my phone instantly

-Chloe, where are you?-

I replied to Kylie
-Just got outside, give me 5 minutes I'll be there!-

I'm too tired to run, sure they'll understand why I'm late.

Few minutes past, I got to the park. Only to see familiar faces, Sam, John, and Kylie. They were all happy to see me, Sam was waving her hand, Kylie keeps on shouting my name, saying I should hurry, and well for John, he seemed so busy doing something. As I got near to them, Kylie moved towards me, she embraced me tight, but there was something else.

The moment she went to me, there is silhouette. Was that there before? Or is Kylie just blocking it. It's a silhouette of a man, he's doing something with John...

What in the world... Who is he?

I whispered to Kylie

"Hey, who.. who is that guy?"

"Hm? Hmm... let's see, maybe someone you like?"

My heart suddenly pumped heavy. Oh no, this is bad, what the hell? Why am I nervous? Is it true? Is it James? Ugh, my chest.. it hurts already, it feels so heavy.

Kylie whispered to me
"You should approach him"

"What? No!"

"You should! He'll be happy to see you!"

"Who in the world planned this?"

"Samantha, who else?"

That woman!!!

"Listen Chloe, approach him, before he sees you."

"But.. you literally shouted my name a while ago."

"Yeah don't worry about that, just approach him already."

Kylie gave me a big push, I nearly tripped over. I glared at Sam, she looks so happy, she even gave me a thumbs up.

So.. no more turning back huh? Before I could even touch him, he suddenly turned around.

"Wha-."
