The railway was not that fair from David's Hill. It was about six miles away. The railway carried them as far as Zanda, 280 miles west of Stanford throughout the deserts of Garland were the native barbarians lived. It had taken two days to reach the boarding of Zandiapolis. Only slowly, as the train reached Zandiapolis City train station.
Late that afternoon when he arrived, the train station was overcrowded with people of different races running here and there, eagerly to the train with excitement. Werner was really happy because his dream of coming to the city came through. It was such a good feeling of a new start for him.
The climate condition was literally very cool and he enjoyed the fresh air. It was an amazing encounter.
"Well, that's the start, it's a new start"
Zandiapolis had something that was its own. The view was wonderful and breath taking. And for Werner, he just knew how to start of his life in the city. Werner believed that starting life in the city could make him a better man and he took hold of every opportunity he got.
He walked down the stairways to the entrance of the rail way station and sat at the long wooden desk chair to the right of the ticket reception. For a moment his eyes rested on families welcoming one another. Within a moment the door of the door to the entrance of the railway station opened and there his uncle stood. Werner leaned back in the large desk chair and looked at him speculatively for a moment. His uncle looked different from the time they met way back. He had a very thin funny mustache, one of a kind and his body was huge than before. He just looked different.
"Hi Werner!" his uncle greeted. "You have grown into a big man, how is David's Hillside?
"Great" Werner responded, "O my God! Is that you uncle Belly. They called him belly because he had a big rounded belly.
"Ag! Get over it, pick up your luggage and head to the taxi"
They arrived at his uncles place within fifteen minutes. The city was overcrowded with people and cars everywhere, almost every day.
Arriving at Nova location, they walked through bleak little streets before they arrived at Nebo, a squatter camp located near Wilinton street. Belly and Werner took a straight walk through Nebo before they reached the house. The house was made of corrugated iron and timber. The door was opened within seconds, and uncle Belly's wife standing at the door smiled as she welcomes Werner.
"Please come in, make yourself at home" she opened the door wider.
"How nice to see you again, Mr Werner"
"Thanks"
Nova was full of shacks, with no electricity. They did not had private taps and toilets. This was not what Werner expected, so he had to make plans, get a job, build a big house in town and finally bring Leah to the city.
Will his plan of getting a new job and building a house in town became a reality.
Let's look to it in the next part of the story titled betrayed.
