Alyana's POV (NOT EDITED)

"You almost done packing Ally?" I turned around to see my best friend, Kaitlyn, leaning against my dorm room frame.

"Ya, but it's just weird you know? This is the first winter I'm going home too since 6th grade. I mean I'm excited and everything but I don't know what to expect, I've haven't seen them in almost 5 years. They probably got used to me not being there and now that I'm going back it's bound to cause trouble," I sighed sitting on my bed and rumpling up the blankets a bit, "Honestly, I have no idea why I'm going back in the first place, I mean I love my family but I kinda got used to staying here with the rest of you guys for the holidays."

"Al, you know you have to visit them! They are your family, they probably miss you too. Besides it's only for two weeks, now come on the bus to the airport is here and you're going to miss it if you stay here," Before I could reply Kaitlyn took one of my suitcases and left, leaving me to follow her behind with my other one. Sighing, I took one last look before leaving my dorm room. Even though I had to hurry, I said one last goodbye to my friends that I saw along the way.

1 hour later

After finally arriving at the airport I went through security and bought a strawberry refresher at Starbucks before sitting in Gate B waiting for the attendants to let us board. Before you make judgments, let me tell you that I am not a Starbucks lover. I actually hate caffeine but since I couldn't find any Jamba Juice here I had to stick to Starbucks. Besides its not like I need any energy, I'm both insomniac and active (not a very good pair if you ask me).

I was about to plug my earphones in but I stopped when they called out that they were going to start boarding. I took my bags and drink while I went to stand in line wanting to board first so I don't have to deal with all the people.

15 minutes later

Once the plane started, I plugged in my earphones and got my book out to read. No matter how hard I tried I just couldn't focus on reading so I just gave up and let my thought roam free and wild. I'm finally going back home I can't believe it. What would they think if I just came back though?  I should have told at least one of them that I was coming back. They don't expect me there will they be happy? Will they like how much I've changed? Would they except me or did they forget about me?  The same thoughts plagued my mind for the whole 6 hour flight.

When I finally reached California I was struck with a sense of nostalgia. I finally arrived and it looked the same as the day I left- humid air, crowded valet, and extremely hot weather (thank goodness I wore shorts and a tank top). I shook my head and decided to instead focus on catching an uber or a taxi to the house. Due to this being an airport, finding a taxi that could take me home was pretty easy and soon I was on my way home. The house was 30 minutes away without traffic and knowing the time was 12:30pm on December 19th, I just hoped they were all still out at school or work when I arrived so I can surprise them after I put all my things away.

When I reached, the house looked the exact same as when I left except with Christmas decorations and less of a mess. I quickly took the keys from underneath the flower pot and went in. The house quiet so no one was there. Before I could waste anymore time I went to my room on the second floor. The first thing I saw was my memory wall. It had a bunch of photos of me, my family, my family and I, my friends, and my friends with me. Out of all the photos the one that caught my eye was of me and my twin, Alyssa. We both had identical brown pigtails and a white knee-length dress, with out tongue sticking out and one hand around each other while the other was holding our cookies and cream ice-cream cones. The only difference between the two of us were our eyes. While mine were bright- almost dark- green eyes, her's were a bright blue. If you looked closely at the picture you could see my younger brother at the corner facing away from the camera, mid-laugh. We were 7 when the picture was taken but I can still remember it like it was yesterday.

The two of us were so close before I left, but I can only hope we can still be that close. Looking at the time (1:30) I dropped my bags on my bed and headed down to the kitchen knowing that my mom would be home soon with my youngest brother any minute now. When I reached the kitchen I took out a cup of mango juice and a granola bar while sitting at the counter trying to look as normal as possible when I heard the door opening and my mom's voice drifted through the house talking to my brother, Caden, about school.

I turned around to make sure my mom didn't mistake me for Alyssa and right in time to because as soon as I did, both their jaw dropped and the grocery bags my mom was holding. Not knowing what to say I took the simple approach and said, "Surprise?" With jazz hands.

I'm still new to writing stories, so I accept all constructive criticism. I also except all ideas and I may use them in one of the later chapters if it goes along with the story.
