8 | Lunch with Doug

It was Saturday morning, and I was home alone. Grayson went out with Amanda, so of course I was stuck here jealous without anything to do. I started a load of laundry, then tended to some of the dishes we had left. It was boring to say the least.

I decided against watching a movie, so maybe I'll take a nap. The house was quiet, the sun was bright. It was a gorgeous day, and I was wasting it inside.

My phone vibrated on the table, I looked to see Dougs called ID pop up. What the hell could he possibly want?

I sighed before clicking the green button, "Hello."

"Hey Eth! What's up?"

"Nothing, bored. Grayson left me to go out with Amanda." I realized how awful that sounded, but I didn't care.

"That's his girlfriend Ethan, you can't expect Grayson to spend every single day and every single hour with you." He sounded annoyed so I didn't push it any further. "I'm sorry." He added.

I didn't say anything.

"Do you want to go for lunch?" He continued.

I looked at the clock.

3:30

"Yeah, I guess I could use a bite to eat. What did you have in mind?"

"Zoro."

"I mean, sure. What time?"

"Be ready in five."

With that he hung up the phone. I sighed slouching down in the couch knowing five would soon turn into 2 minutes left to get ready. I was really up for much, but I wanted to get out. I slowly got up from the couch and headed up to grab a pair of jeans.

I didn't think I needed to look too presentable since it was just Doug. Who knows maybe I will enjoy this.

About a couple seconds later I hear the door bell as I am flattening out my shirt. I nod at the body mirror one last time before heading down to let Doug in. A sigh of relief came over me when I realized he wasn't overly dressed. I'm not sure what I was expecting this to be.

"You look nice." He complimented my mediocre outfit.

"Thanks." I reply.

We both head out in silence. I was a little confused as to why he didn't just blow the horn for me. But I quickly threw the irrelevant thought out. My mind reverted back to what Grayson could have possibly been doing. I just can't understand why he liked Amanda so much.

It took only 10 minutes for Doug to reach Zoros. He drives like a maniac, but the ride there was fairly quiet. I was never really a talkative person. But when I was with Grayson it seemed like we had a list of things to talk about and more.

Doug quickly came around the car to let me out. I thanked him, and we made our way into the cramped eating establishment. I really hoped we didn't see Grayson or Amanda. Because Doug would have urged them to join us.

I must have been a little to quiet for Doug because he started talking.

"Know what you want? I'm paying."

Why do guys insist they have to pay. Not putting up a fight I nodded, "Turkey Burger, lightly salted fries.  Thanks."

"Alright. That's all?"

"Add a milkshake." I grinned before walking to an empty booth.

The seats were cold. I felt tired after the constant thinking. I wished Grayson was here but at the same time I didn't want to see his face.

I watched as Doug came back with two milkshakes.

"Thanks." I said as he sat down.

"No problem. So, what's up?"

"What's up?" I question.

"I mean yeah." He chuckled slightly.

I shook my head, "Well I am here with you."

I knew what he was trying to do. Doug was always caring, I was just never interested even when we dated. A thought I have never came across hit me. I knew in the end it would hurt someone, but I was curious if such would work.

Was there a possibility I could make Grayson jealous by using Doug.
