One thing about most Pokémon fans is that they all have a soft spot for a certain Pokémon game, that's probably because it was their first game, I have two Pokémon games that were my first. One is a Core game, the other is a spin off game. Today I'll tell you about my first core game. My first ever video game system was a Gameboy Advanced, I got it when I was in 1st grade for Christmas. It came with a Disney Princesses game. I did love that game. I had that Gameboy for some time before I got myself a pink DS in 2nd grade. My grandmother every other weekend or so would bring us to get haircuts and then out to lunch (usually Friendly's). Well, next to the Supercuts was a GameStop (now a Weight watchers). This GameStop back then sold gameboy games (retro ones). I remember I looked for a game that I would like, that was until I found a Pokémon game for the Gameboy (It was Pokémon Blue, I know this is kinda obvious but I wasn't born/or grew up in the 90's). I was thrilled to actually have a Pokémon game of my own!! My grandmother had a budget that she could use so I couldn't exactly get a pricey game, but that Pokémon Blue was only $2!! I started to play it as soon as I got home!! I remember I named the protagonist Danny (because of Danny Phantom) before changing my mind and naming him Ash (which is who I thought he looked like, I didn't know he was actually Red) same thing for the rival, I named him Gary (because I thought he looked like Gary, I didn't know his name was Blue/Green). I was recall wondering where Piplup was!?! I didn't know that I was playing a Gen. 1 Pokémon game and Piplup is a Gen. 4!! That is probably because I watched Diamond and Pearl and I looked up to Dawn as a bit of a role model!! (She is on my Top 3 Pokégirls!! 👍) I think my starter was a Charmander. I think I got as far as Vermilion City before I just got stuck (This was my first Core Pokémon game so I did not know how to play through Kanto) and I didn't play it as much. I did play a lot of Mystery Dungeon however!! I also have Pokémon Red as well, I got this one from the same GameStop I think two weeks after I got my Blue version, I thought it was a completely different game, until I saw it is literally the same thing only with differences in Pokémon to find. (Of course it's not uncommon for people to have both versions of a Pokémon game I know a friend who has both Ultrasun and UltraMoon and Probably has both Sword and Shield, but I didn't know that then.) When I was in Fifth grade, I decided to play through my Red version for two reasons, one was to see how it was to play through Kanto "correctly" since I had HeartGold version at the time and the other was to get some ideas for a fanfiction that I was doing. Of course I only stuck with it until I reached Cerulean city since I was carried away with HeartGold, plus I was soo unused to some of the retro things in these games!! (That doesn't make them bad though, I don't take it personally.)
Pokémon Leafgreen is actually a Kanto based game that I actually played through on a serious note (I got this game in Middle school), I went extremely further than I have in Red or Blue even though its just a reboot, plus I was a more experienced Pokémon player since I have played HeartGold, Black, and Ruby. Now, I never got the chance to play Let's Go! Pikachu or Eevee (due to me not having a Switch system as I write this 🙇🙇🙇) but if I ever do get to play one it would be Eevee that I would want to play!!
Will I ever play Red or Blue??? Well, maybe but I might be unused to the retro aspect like HMs for instance (playing UltraMoon you kinda get comfortable with the idea of not having to teach your Pokémon cut!!) I hear lots of folks like to do Nuzlockes on them, I have tried one once, but I never wanted to persue it. I LOVE Gen. 1 since some of my favorite trainers and Pokémon are from Kanto and everything is so classic/iconic. This probably makes me sound a lot like a Genwunner doesn't it?? Let's just say I'm the good things about a Genwunner!! But, as a genuine Pokémon fan I'm generally very open to other generations too!! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
What was your first core Pokémon game?? Did you just start playing Pokémon or have you played since the 90's?? Be sure to share if you'd like!!
Ciao till next time!!
