chp. 17: the battle of starcourt pt. i

Cherry's POV:

"Still nothing?"

"Nothing." Murray confirms.

"Food court? Are you sure and they said food court?" Jim asked in confusion.

Murray turns to look at Jim agitated, " I'm sorry, have my translation skills been letting you down?"

Jim just stares at him.

"We don't know it's your kids." Murray tries to reassure Jim.

"Yes, we do." Joyce replied, making a sharp turn.

A few minutes later...

We finally made it to starcourt.

We all got out, and I heard screaming, I looked to Jim and we took off to the entrance.

I heard glass break and see everyone around Eleven, and she's taking something out of her leg. She got it out, wailing and crying in pain. She then throws the slug like creature in our direction.

It falls on the floor and moves toward us until Jim squashes it.

All of them look up at us.

After a few seconds of us looking at each other, I run over to check on El, "I'm okay." she tells me I scoff, but hugged her tightly.

"Okay," I start getting back to business, "explain, now."

We all get up and move to the fountain in the middle of the floor, "The Mind Flayer, it built this monster in Hawkins, to stop El, to kill her and pave a way into our world." Mike starts to explain to us.

"And it almost did. That was just one tiny piece of it." Nancy says.

"How big is this thing." Jim and I ask.

"It's big." Johnathan murmurs. "Thirty feet, at least." Dustin adds, "Yeah." Lucas agreed, "It sorta destroyed your cabin." He looks to me and Jim, "Sorry." He whispered.

Steve then said, "Okay, so, just to be clear this...this big fleshy spider thing that hurt El, it's some kind of gigantic...weapon?" I look over from where I'm sitting with Alexei, at El and Jim, who's holding a cloth to her head where a cut was.

"Yes."

"But instead of, screws and metal, the Mind Flayer made it's weapon...with melted people."

"Yes, exactly." Nancy confirmed.

"Yeah, okay." Steve said, "I--yeah, I'm just making sure."

Joyce looks at them, "Are we sure this thing is still out there, still alive?"

Max then speaks, "El beat the shit out of it, but, yeah, it's still alive."

"But if we close the gate again--"

"We cut the brain off from the body."

"And kill it. Theoretically." Lucas concluded, finishing what Max and Will were getting at.

What came next made me jump out of my skin, "Yoo-hoo!" Murray shouted, rustling some papers, I groan, "Can't you see the grownups are talking?!" But he just ignores me and moves to a table.
