Natalie's POV: **Trigger warning**
I can't believe that I got the job! I've been applying to nanny positions ever since I graduated from the University of Chicago. I tried my luck applying back in Illinois but figured moving to Los Angeles would be the better choice. I was right. I get to live in a mansion on the outskirts of Hollywood and get to nanny two adorable little girls.
When I first saw Mr. Dobrik, or David, he was not what I pictured at all. I pictured a stuck up rich white man, but instead I saw a loving but slightly overwhelmed father. He told me the situation about their mother leaving but not why or how. I mean I don't even know the guy personally but I know that if I had a loving husband and two beautiful kids, I'd never leave.
After the interview, I walked excitedly back to the bus stop to go back to my apartment. I got an apartment with my best friend who moved to LA with me from Chicago, Zane. Zane and I have always been super close growing up and he's kind of crazy so he jumped at the chance to come to LA. Our apartment is a little run down and small but hey it's home. We both came with a little money saved up but this city was more expensive then we even imagined. We made do with what we had.
"Honey, I'm home!" I yell out to Zane when I walk through the door.
"Girl, how did it go?!" Zane yells back coming out of the kitchen.
We both sit on the couch and face each other. He came in drinking a cold beer, like always.
"I got the job!" I scream putting my hands in the air. It's the first time that I got to share the news, so I was beyond excited. We've been here for over a month and I had trouble finding a job, even with a degree.
"Yes! I knew you would!" He reached out to hug me and said, "Tell me all about the Addams Family."
"They're not bad actually, the Dobrik's are actually a normal, nice family. It's two little twin girls, Abigail and Alyssa, and their dad, David." I don't know what possessed my face at the moment to blush but that was the only sign Zane needed to start instigating.
"Wait, tell me more about this David guy, that's got you all hot and bothered." He asks crossing his legs and leaning his head on his hand.
I roll my eyes at his inquisition, "Nothing, I don't even know the guy."
"Okay girl, whatever you say. Is he hot?"
"I guess if you're into that sort of stuff." I say, not even believing myself.
"Umm hmm, interesting."
"What's interesting?" I ask.
"It's interesting that in one day David has got you all flustered, he must be smoking." He tells me with a sly smile on his face.
"Anyways I have to start packing since I start on Monday." I say leaving to go to my room. I knew there wasn't much to pack since I had brought one suitcase full of clothes from back home and never really got around to decorating around here. In fact most of my clothes was still on the suitcase on the floor by my bed. I can't believe I get to go from sharing a one bedroom apartment in a not so nice neighborhood to Hollywood Hills. I promised Zane I would still pay my half of the rent, until he found another roommate he liked. Zane has been with me through it all and I at least owe him that.
There more to why I left Chicago then just to find more job opportunities. It was my final year of college and my roommates forced me to go to this "super cool" frat party going on that night. I was never much of a partier but my friends told me to live a little and stop being so boring. I should of gone with my instinct and stayed home but ultimately I decided to go out. I didn't know at the time, that it would be the worst decision I've ever made. My friends all dispersed as soon as they walked through the front door. I decided to go find somewhere to sit for the night so I can be on my phone, unbothered. A couple of hours later, the two friends that forced me to come, had disappeared with some guys for the night. I was annoyed that they didn't even tell me and decided to go home. Little fun fact about me, I never learned how to drive. There was no need to since Zane practically drove me around everywhere. This night I didn't want to bother him by having him come pick me up so I started to walk home. The party was about a one mile walk back to my dorm which didn't seem so bad. I started to feel a little uneasy since it was almost pitch black except for a few street lights every now and then. I thought I heard a noise but shook it off. I thought I was just being paranoid. I had to walk over this grass field as a shortcut to make it to my building. I began walking when I hear another noise and this time I was sure I heard it. Before I could even turn around, I was being pushed onto the ground. I was lying face down and could feel the weight of someone's knee on my back. I started screaming for help and trying to wiggle out but to no luck. I started screaming again at the top of my lungs when I felt the blade on the side of my neck.
