I was still in shock as I looked left to make sure nobody saw that, and of course "Emerald" was standing right next to me. I jumped back. I thought he had somewhere to go.
"Why are you here?" I asked him defensifly.
"I was going to ask you a question, when you broke through the stairwell. So I followed you." He said smiling that sly smile.
"What was the question?"
"I..," He said, but was broke off by Sapphire falling to the floor, while I ran over to her.
"Sapphire, are you okay?" I asked, but wasn't answered.
"We have to get her to the nurse." Mike said. I noded as he picked her up into his arms.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Is she going to be okay?" I asked. She had a bruise on her forehead, probably from falling on the ground as Mike had caught her.
"She will be fine," She replied, "She just has a minor head injiury, nothing that won't heal. Although when she wakes up she might have a head ache."
I noded my head. Even though I hadn't known her for a while I felt like it was my job to make sure she was okay. I looked over to see Mike sitting in the chair by her side. I bet he was thinking the same thing. Emerald was standing next to me. I turned to face him.
"Thanks for not freaking out." I said. I looked up into those green eyes.
"Of course, we wouldn't want the school being on this like a flock of birds." He said smiling. He sure did smile alot.
"Right." I sighed. It's been quite a day so far.
I took a seat in a chair by me and sighed once again. I looked around the room. Their was Sapphire resting peacfully on the bench, like in the doctors room. Her chest rising and falling and Mike sitting right next to her. His scared and calm at the same time. Like a the eye of the hurricane. Then I realized something, right then, right now. He cared for her already. He barely knew her and he cared for her. She would have someone to wake up to. To be their her. I was glad. Emerald game over and croutched down next to me.
"What's wrong?" He asked concern in his voice.
"Nothing." I replied.
"It's not nothing." He said. I smiled at him.
"It's just that I wished that I had something like that." I guestured at Sapphire and Mike.
"What do you mean?"
"I wish when I was hurt I had a relationship like that. That the most important person in my life would be there with me. I mean you mom and dad are important, but I mean like when your dating someone or your guy best friend would be there for you when you woke up. Because they cared for you so much. I never had that. Sure David is my best friend, but he would never do that for me. Never have never, will." He look at me with the most sympathtic eyes ever.
"I'm sorry it's never happened to you, but you aren't alone. It's never happened to me either." I looked at him and gave him a weak smile.
Maybe we aren't so different.
