On the crisp, cold and frigid winter night of the 10th of February, Two-Thousand and Twenty-Two, at precisely Eleven-Sixteen p.m., Eastern standard time. A meteorite of such mammoth proportions is first discovered in space.
Within the short span of a few hours during the night, an astronomer at the Arnold Horten Space Observatory And Research Center had been given a task by his senior supervisor to take a second look at a seemingly simple and routine inquiry.
Shortly thereafter the meteorites initial discovery, it's painstakingly monitored on a constant 24-hour, round the clock, week-long period of observation where an extensive series of scientific studies had concluded. A report is quietly filed, based on their findings during the observation and it's determined that the meteorites set path carries a highly plausible trajectory that will directly collide with Earth.
The Arnold Horten Space Center resided in the humble hills of tranquility and attractive quaintness that was the small resort township of Hallevort, Vermont and would be, quite ironically, of all things, the most unlikeliest of places in the entire world, where one would find the biggest monumental event to have ever befallen the entire globe and in turn, break 'front-page' news headlines, all over the world.
By the next preceding week, Government Intel had somehow leaked to a few key media outlets on the sticky issue concerning the meteorites trajectory. Intel that suggested the absolutely unprecedented challenges of combating the meteorite successfully and it's calculated trajectory with Earth was increasingly certain. This contradicted everything the U.S. Government had stated in any official capacity, it seemed the truth of the matter was gravely uninspiring.
When the news broke, the true nature of the validity of the meteorite's projected trajectory became the first 'big' question that was brought to the fold. For the government, lying to the general public and praying for the best had long since past and now the situation called for some form of the truth in the matter.
The time had come to show the world what kind of threat we were facing. The next day, they announced a press conference which would be held with all the major media journalists from around the globe the following morning.
The following day, the press conference was held at the White House with the President's Secretary of Defense, Ken Garwood, fielding questions from journalists concerning this newly discovered meteorite. The world at large, stood in wonder when chief members of NASA had estimated the size and density of the meteor was, in a word, impressive to say the least. It's proven path towards Earth would be unavoidably true. At the end of the fifteen-minute press conference, the facts were conclusive and it would undoubtedly be the most important moment in the history of our time.
As the reality of the meteor began to sink into the public consciousness. The White House addressed the impending threat the meteor would present to not only the United States, but that of the entire world. During the short press conference, a term called an 'Impact Event' was thrown around and made reference of several times within those fifteen minutes.
An Impact Event was all but certain with Earth and would deal levels of devastation of near cataclysmic proportions. The White House brazenly claimed they had contingency plans drafted in collaboration with NASA that were immediately set in motion, to combat the looming threat of the meteorite.
They had planned on, as NASA would habitually proclaim, of 'bumping it off' it's direct trajectory with Earth. The United Nations Security Council employed the help and resources of 5 world countries, combining their efforts to produce results quickly and effectively. Furthermore, they needed it to produce fast results, as the clock was indeed ticking. The end goal would be to showcase results that were supposed to save the planet from ruin. The sense of urgency on their part only jeopardized the entire operation.
