I curled against Sodapop, crying against his shoulder. "It's alright, Mel. Calm down, honey bunches."  He used Mom's nickname for me, because he knew it'd calm me. It was the second night where I'd wake up from blasted nightmares. Pony had grown out of it after studying harder, reading more, and being more active, but I guess it stuck to me all of a sudden. Darry and Soda thought it was just a one time thing, I guess they were wrong.

I gasped for air. Ponyboy was awakening from my bed, we had traded places, I was in his spot because of my nightmare. (Soda probably made him scoot, knowing how bull-headed he was sometimes.) Sodapop comfortingly rubbed my arm, and I took a deep breath. It was just a dream. It was just realistic dream. I'd dreamt that I was lost in a forest. Lost and calling for the gang, but no one ever found me. I would see Mom and Dad walking away from me, into some light. I yelled as hard as I could, but no one would ever hear me. It was too realistic, and it was the same dream I'd dreamt the other night.

My older brother softly hummed the lullaby Mom used to sing to me when I was little, and I drifted off to sleep.

"You had another dream?" Darry asked at the kitchen table.

I nodded, spreading butter over my toast. Unfortunately.

He sighed. "I figured on asking you, but what was it about?"

Biting my lip, I replied, "It was about the gang and Mom and Dad." Then I quickly took a quick bite of my toast.

Ponybpy's grayish-green eyes met mine. I knew what he was saying. He was indicating that he used to have similar dreams.

"That doesn't make sense, though. You just started having those dreams the other day...why would...." Sodapop swallowed, skipping the topic of our parents, "they....appear in your dreams all of a sudden..."

Darry nodded. "Yeah, I guess Soda'd be right. Pony started having those dreams right after...." He too paused, "You know....."

There was a moment of silence. Ponyboy quickly changed the topic to his track meet practice. He announced that he would be coming home late, and Two-Bit'd swing by and drop him home.

After that, it was the usual breakfast at the Curtis household.
