As I ran people tried to stop me and ask me what happened, I pushed them aside and slam the door shut to my bedroom. Finally, I let the tears come out. He had a point, I really wasn’t thinking, I wanted to prove that they can’t control me but maybe it didn’t needed to be proven.

KNOCK KNOCK! “Go away,” the knocking continued, “Goddamn it, I said go away and leave me alone!”

The knocking stopped, “Hey, Tessa, it’s Emma.” I got up and opened the door, she looked at me quizzically like I was some kind of puzzle that needed to be solved.

“What do you want?” I muttered without looking at her.

“Are you okay, I saw you running and slamming the door,” I didn’t answer, “You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to?”

“Sammy and I had an argument,” I shrugged, “That’s all.”

“It must’ve been pretty harsh,” she put her arm around my shoulder, “Do you want anything?”

“No, just. Can I have some time alone?” I hoped that didn’t hurt her, I can’t afford to hurt anyone else.

“Uh, yeah sure. Just tell me if you need anything.” I walked over to the glass doors and threw them opened, the sea breeze hit me like relief, and the sky was the colour of Sammy’s eyes. I walked back inside, closed the door and cried myself to sleep.

The beeps of my phone woke me up, there were several text messages from Sammy:

Sammy: Sorry about last night

Sammy: Meet me at the cave tonight at 5pm?

At least he wasn’t angry anymore, wow, I screwed up heaps last night. I replied:

Me: Yeah, sorry about last night

Me: K, I’ll see you at the cave tonight

Me: Bye, I love you.

I glanced at the calendar on my phone, it was September 7, Sammy’s birthday was in two days. He didn’t forget mine, so I couldn’t forget his. I grabbed some card paper from the craft store and started to make his card. It read:

Sammy,

Happy birthday! I know that this card and the present isn’t much compared to what I’ve given you for your previous birthdays, but this was all I could do in the last two days before your birthday. I mean, don’t get me wrong, you’re my best friend and I want to make every birthday special, but with the king of heaven trying to kill me, I’ve been busy. I know that one day you’ll forget this, but, I will barely survive without you, (don’t you dare leave me is another way of saying it). I will love you infinitely ∞, always even if you don’t love me back, but please do anyway.

Your One And Only,

Tess

I hope that it was enough, I got up and undress, and stepped into that shower, I let the cold water run over me. I didn’t want to think about the Gods, or Sammy. By the time I finished showering, it had started to rain. This was obviously the work of Jupiter, God of the Sky, I mean, before the sky was clear. Zach caught up to me in the hallway.

“Hey, where are you going?”

“To meet Sammy,” I smiled sheepishly, “We got over last night of you were wondering.”

“Are you crazy? It’s pouring outside.”

“Yeah I know, don’t worry I’ll be fine.”

When I got there Sammy was waiting for me, drenched in rain.

“Hey,” I said softly, “Sorry about last night.”

I sat down next to him, he smelt like rain and wet grass. “Yeah, I’m sorry too,” He leaned over and kissed me lightly in the lips, light enough to send shivers down my spine. “I don’t think I deserve you, you’re too good for me after what I said to you before.”

“You’re not allowed to say that!” I exclaimed, he looked at me quizzically, “It’s a break up line.” Tears were already welling up at the back of my eyes, “U-unless you’re breaking up then-”

He leaned over and kissed me, “No, break ups okay? I promise.” And wrapped his arms around me. “Are you free tonight?” there was a glint in his eyes, “We can come over to your room.”

A smile tugged at the corners of my mouth, “You are going to get so busted.”

After dinner, I went to meet Sammy at the cave, “Come on, but be quiet though.” Most people were still at dinner, luckily, no one was in the Rooms. We came inside and locked the doors.

“Whoa, nice room,” he walked around, inspecting everything, “Way better than Aries.”

“Well that’s the benefit of not living in an army camp.”

“Hey, I didn’t choose to live in an army camp.”

I took off my jacket and my singlet and pulled down my shorts, I looked down, I was wearing a lavender coloured bra, with black lacing and small polka dots, with matching panties. “Ready?”

He looked nervous but replied while taking off his shirt, “Ready.” He walked over to me and pushed me against the wall, “Are you scared that we might get in trouble?”

“No,” I kissed him, it was a long kiss, not hard, “I’m a rebel.” I heard him laugh softly, he pulled away and sat down on my bed, I walked over to him and swung my legs around so I was on top of him and placed my hands on his bare chest. “Do you think that there are other nations? Maybe ones with more freedom.”

“I don’t know, hopefully there is. I’ll move there any day.” He kissed me lightly, which sent shivers down my spine. “Do you have movies?”

KNOCK KNOCK! Shit, who the heck would be up now? We are so busted, “Quick Sammy, hide.”

“What, where?”

“I don’t know, in the bathroom. And take your clothes with you.”

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK! “Tessa? Can I come in?” I recognised that voice, it was Emma.

“C-coming! Hang on,” I grabbed my clothes, and quickly slipped them on and pulled over a dress. I swung the door opened, “Hi, can I, uh, help you?”

“Oh, come one Tessa. You know why I came, who was in there with you?”

I was completely taken back, “What? I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“Don’t think that I can’t hear all the running and talking and slurping kissing noises.” My face went completely red, “Yeah, blush all you want. Who was in there with you?”

“Ugh fine.” I sighed, “Sammy,”

Just then he popped his head from behind the bathroom door, thankfully dressed, “Hey,”

“Wait, from Aries?”

“Um yeah, I brought him hear.”

Emma shook her head at me, “Wow, you are so busted.” Then she looked at Sammy with and eyebrow raised, “You might want to get back now, while it’s still dark,”

“Yeah, okay,” he walked over and kissed me lightly, “Movie tomorrow might?”

I nodded, “Sure, my place. I’ll meet you at Aries.”

When Sammy was gone Emma looked at me like I was a naughty three year old, “You are such a rebel,”

I beamed at her, “So I’ve been told.”
