~ Earlier that day Jewel's POV
"Good morning mom, are you and dad still going to Oval city today?". I pulled a seat next to my mom who was currently having pancakes for breakfast. My mom who use to be a housewife when the we were younger currently take care of the Family's hotel. But she never fails to to cook 3 square meals a day for her family. She pour herself some pineapple juice while offering me some scrambled eggs. " Yea son, we'll leave this afternoon when your dad is done with his meeting. Why do you ask?"... " Oh, Rebel and I have a school project to work on, and I was wondering if he can stay the night?" His mom chuckle at the question, " ...and since when does Rebel need permission to stay over? The boy practically lives here lol"... " Yea, he said his father still wants him to ask. Mr. Cane won't let him come if you said no, you know he doesn't like to be a bother". Rhythm walked into the kitchen and opened the fridge, " Mom, we don't have any lettuce? I need to pack a lunch today". " why so? You don't eat school lunch anymore "-Mom. " No, my band has a gig after school. I need a snack on the ride there hahahahaha". Normal people have chips or cookies for a snack, not Rhythm. He has grown into a body builder now. He plays every sport and almost every instrument you can think of. He is what you call a ladies man, all you hear is girls giggling and whispering about how handsome he is when we walks the hallways.
I on the other hand don't receive a lot of attention from girls. The only time a girl will approach me is when they are asking for Rebels phone number.
My best friend Rebel who is a Freshman like me has already made the Basketball team. His structure and built got him recruited on the first day of classes. He is also very good looking, he had his father's jawline and deep dimples. His dashing good looks have even the senior girls trying to date him. Unlike my brother Rhythm who love to showboat and love the attention. Rebel is very reserved, he is a man of few words but had a way of grasping everyone's attention when he spoke."What time would you return home Rhythm".. my mom snapped me out of my day dreaming with that question towards my brother . "We will be done by 10pm ish... Oh when is lyric done with his exams?"... "He supposed to return either today or tomorrow"-mom. My heart sunk when I heard that. The age gap between Rhythm and I is not by much and it is easier to hang with him. My brother Lyric is another story, sometimes I feel like he treats more like his little sister than brother. When he was home, he always picked me up from school and refused to let me walk home by myself. I tried asking my parents to talk to him, but they claim he is just over protective and means well. He even beat up one of his class mates because he made a comment about me being too pretty for a boy. I rather get a scolding from my Dad, than him frankly I am a bit scared of him. In fact, he changed ever since that incident when I was 10years.
" We would call him before we leave to find out, most likely knowing him,he will be here Friday. He hates driving during rush hour"- mom. Now I'm rethinking if I should go over to Rebel's instead. "You want a ride to school or you going with Rebel?"... " Go ahead bro, I'll hitch a ride with Rebel today. Thanks!!! And good luck at your show".After school, I followed Rebel to his basketball game. I watched him make a few baskets and every time he does, he would look towards my direction with a big ole smile and yell, " did you you see that Ju!! Ooh am going pro". And this will make me giggle 🤭 like a high school at her crush. No wonder I heard this after he made his 5th shot, " awwww Ju!!! Is that his pet name for you?". I turned around to find a boy in our year sitting behind me. I was so engulfed in Rebel and his antics that I forgot we were in public. The boy came down from his seat and sat next to me. "Hi, my name is Liam... I'm in class B". The boys previous comment was still ringing in my ear that I was dazed out when he introduced himself. " I'm sorry who are you?"... He giggled and said, " my name is Liam, I'm in your year but in class B". I just nodded and looked away trying not to engage in any conversation, but he didn't seem to mind running his mouth. " I come to all boyfriend Jake's practice, he is the captain of the team he's a Junior.I've noticed you come to all your boyfriends practice as well"... "HUH!!! My WHAT?!".... " Wait number 6 is not your bf, my apologies I thought you two were a couple because of your interactions. It's obvious he likes you and-..." I turned tomato red from his comment, " No!!! We are just best friends!!!". The boy now look really startled from my out burst. Again he apologized, " I'm sorry okay! I didn't mean to offend you". I stormed off and went over to the food court. I was replaying the scene in my head for a while. The thing is I do like Rebel more than a friend, I've had a crush on him since we were younger. I never said anything because 1. I truly value our friendship, we were practically family 2. I was afraid of how he would treat me and 3rd I don't know how my family would handle it, especially my brother Lyric.
" Hey, why did you storm off like that. What did Liam say to you?" He already know that cute boy... " How do you know that boy?"... "He's Jakes bf, he attends all the games. Even the away games". Rebel did not seem to be bothered or disgusted by the fact that his teammate was gay. I just stared at him and smiled. I can't deny a part of me was relieved to know he was not homophobic. Because, I've been working up the courage to confess to him for a few months now. " if you are done daydreaming, I've to hit the showers now. Order pizza for us to take home". He ruffled my hair and jogged back to the locker room. "Hmmmm, should I go ahead and bare my soul to him?"....😖
