I wish I could’ve made you stay
And I’m the only one to blame
I know that it’s a little too late
This is everything I didn’t say

"You're really into whoever you're texting, aren't you?" Calum quipped, looking at Ashton's goofy grin.

"Yeah- I mean... I'm looking at this meme..." Ashton quickly switched to Instagram and scrolled through his feed.

"Yeah, what meme?" Calum smirked, not entirely believing him.

"Oh, um..." Ashton quickly stopped on a picture, not looking at what it is before he turned it to face Calum.

Calum frowned and grabbed the phone from Ashton's grasp.

"Ash..." Calum sighed.

"What?"

"Why are you looking at pictures like this?" Calum turned the screen back to Ashton revealing a picture of Ashton that was taken a couple days ago when he was caught off guard, looking quite surprised. The caption read 'when you look in the mirror and see... this'.

Ashton bit his lip and looked down, tears welling in his eyes.

Calum looked as he was about to wrap Ashton in a warm embrace but shifted awkwardly and pat his shoulder.

"Cal," Ashton began.

"I'm so sorry they do this to you. They just don't know you like I know you." Calum's voice dropped down to a low whisper.

"How well do you know me?"

"I know you're the best listener. You give the best hugs. Your eyes crinkle when you smile. You've used the same shampoo for years because it reminds you of a holiday you had with your parents. You broke your wrist before a gig but you didn't want to let anyone down so you played through the pain. You buy your mum a cheesecake every Tuesday on your way home from school 'cause it's her only day off. You donated all of your birthday money a few years ago to charities. I broke your tv but you took the blame. I could go on." Calum ranted.

Ashton smiled.

"Thanks Cal." Ashton whispers, "it means a lot to me.”

Calum smiled. This had to be the right time to do it, right? They were sitting there, happy. Calum had to tell Ashton how he felt.

"Ashton... I have a confession." Calum whispers, his voice dropping down to a low whisper again.

"Mm?"

"For a while now, I-"

"Calum!" Mali-Koa, Calum’s sister shouted from the near distance, "we're going!"

Calum swore under his breath. Tell him. Tell him goddammit.

"Te amo." Calum whispers, before getting in the car.

"What?"

Calum smiled before putting on his seatbelt.

"I'll see you in a few weeks." Calum said, before they drove off.

Te amo. Te amo.
