My blood turned to ice and then thawed to a boiling hot temperature as I stared at this boy, watching as he flicked his wet hair around his head. "So surprises make you angry, why?" Martha asked, her voice chirping to a high octave.
"I just don't like them, I like to know what's happening. Surprises make me fuckin-"
"Oh, Madeline, we don't curse in anger circle." Martha cut me off, her voice sharp and authorative. "Okay, well Madeline we're going to write that in your journal as something to work on." She took out a pink fuzzy pen and and large binder and began writing occasionally looking up at me. "Charlie why don't you go."
"Well, I really hate when people chew with their mouth op..." His voice faded out because I really didn't fucking care what made Charlie angry. I cared about the fact, Harry, a real living person that I know and goes to the school I go to is here, sitting across from me in this huge circle.
I watched him, even though I didn't want to. He was like a car accident, I didn't want to look but I couldn't seem to stop myself. His eyes were casted down onto his hands, laid folded in his lap. His jaw loosened and tightened everytime someone's tone changed. His jawline looked like it had been perfectly sculpted by a God of Olympus. Maybe Athena, or Zeus created him. I wouldn't doubt it.
His eyes looked up and locked onto mine, green and full of... something. Not sure what it was, I looked away but not before I could catch his smirk. Great, I'll be hearing something about that later or worse. What if he brings it up in front of Daisy? She thinks I've been away all this time... it would kill her if she knew the truth and that'd I'd been lying.
"Harry, what makes you the angriest?" Martha asks, and it seems like the room shrinks bringing him closer to me, Martha being tossed out into the rain with everyone else, just me and him.
"Unreadable people." He answers, his voice low and cut. He looks over at Martha, his brows knitted together waiting to see what her follow up question was.
"Why?" He sighed and rocked back into the chair, his legs stretching out in front of him.
"I want to know what everyone's thinking all the time. I usually do, but some people... I don't know. They stump me. It infuriates me." He says the last part looking over at me, his eyes burning holes through mine. I felt my skin crawl, as if there were bugs crawling all over me.
"Okay well, is there anything else? That might be a bit hard to... fix." Martha says, her voice shaky as if Harry has cracked her whole "I know everything and all the answers to all your problems" facade.
"Well, if you must know. It makes me angry when people don't listen to me and disobey me." I scoffed at this. Could he sound more arrogant and douchey?
"Something wrong Madeline?" Martha questions cocking her head to the side, her short hair all falling to one side. I shake my head and remove the smirk from my face.
"Alright, well that's everyone. Now you're all going to get a journal and you have to write in it every night about your day. About all the things that made you angry that day. Date everything, and bring it back next week for revision. See ya'll next week." The sound of chairs scuddled the gymnasium floor as everyone shuffled to leave as quickly as possible. Including me.
"Hey wait up!" His voice made my head ache with a pain I couldn't describe, but I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. I didn't slow but I didn't pick up my pace either. I did have a few things I wouldn't mind saying to him. "I give you a ride home, saving you from the acid rain Daisy was so sure would fall from the sky only to have you ignore me?" He grabbed the back of my arm and I spun around to face him.
"I wasn't ignoring you. We aren't friends there is no reason to say hello." I spat, and he retaliated by rolling his eyes, his lips parting into a smile.
