The second the waverider landed in the 70's Abigail lurched forwards in her chair. Another man did the same leaning over the side of his own. She could hear Rip say something but at the current moment it wasn't anywhere near important. Abigail tuned everyone out as she threw up on the floor, vomit disappearing into the grate below her.
"Whoa, hey girl I got you." Abigail felt someone lift her hair out of her face pulling it back for her.
Once the vomiting stopped, the contents of Abigails stomach totally depleted, Abigail turned to look at whoever had done something so kind. She came face to face with the one who had freaked out when they were taking off.
"Feel better?" He asked her pulling his hands away her hair falling back down across her shoulders.
"Uh, yeah, I guess." Abigail nodded running her fingers through her hair. "Thanks for the assist..uh."
"Jax." He supplied smiling at her. "Anyway, nice meeting you, but I'm going home now."
"Jefferson-"
"Don't even try man. I can't believe you kidnapped me." Jax spat at the old man beside him.
"It's not as much of a kidnapping as he makes it out to be." The old man told Abigail as he noticed her look of distrust sent his way. "This is the opportunity of a lifetime. I couldn't let him pass it up."
Hey!" Jax addressed Rip getting out of his chair. "I want to go home."
"Good news then 2016 will be around in," Rip raised his eyebrows as he calculated. "41 years. Now, you four." Rip gestured to Abigail, Mick, Sara and Snart. "Make yourselves comfortable on the ship. While the rest of you are coming with me to find Professor Boardman."
"Woah, woah, woah, woah, you're benching us?" Mick asked the time master.
"I thought we were a team." Sara frowned.
"This mission doesn't require your particular skill set." Rip told Sara. "Yet."
"Meaning you don't need anyone killed maimed or robbed." Snart announced.
"Precisely." Rip replied with a nod.
"What about her?" Jax nodded to Abigail. She didn't really give off the same killer vibe that those three did.
"Uh," Rip clasped his hands together. "Medical reasons."
"You sure it's a good idea to leave these two." He gestured to Mick and Snart. "-alone on a time machine?"
"Hey, Haircut deafness wasn't one of the side effects." Mick told him.
"We better hurry up. Professor Boardman will die in less than 24 hours." Rip announced.
Abigail hugged herself wondering if Rip had said similar words to himself on his way to retrieve her for this mission. It was a bit chilling when she thought about it.
"What's the point in cutting it so close?" Ray asked.
"Because if he's destined to die then he doesn't have a timeline for us to interrupt so his impact on the future will be minimal. How brilliant!"
"Yeah, that's...that's just charming." Abigail muttered feeling a bit too close to what they were talking about.
"And depressing." Kendra spoke up. "How does he die?"
"Ah," Rip looked to Abigail for a moment concern in hey eyes. Probably realizing how sensitive this subject matter was getting. "He's found dead in his university from unknown causes. C'mon." Rip exclaimed waving an arm gesturing for everyone to follow.
"Are you coming?" Stein asked Jax.
"I'll stay put!" Jax snapped.
"You'd rather stay with them?" Stein gestured to the trio who were lounging. "Or.." Stein trailed turning to face Abigail. "..is it more accurate to concur that you'd wish to stay with her?"
Jax sighed in total exasperation. "They didn't drug me."
"Fair point." The professor nodded scurrying off before he was left behind.
-
"Why does this stupid station play nothing but reruns?" Mick demanded.
"Don't even both trying to explain." Jax told the two women, Sara standing beside him, Abigail sitting next to him.
"Am I the only one on this ship who could really use a drink?" Sara asked clasping her hands together. "I say we go get weird in the 70's."
"Excellent idea." Snart told her spinning around.
"I've got the perfect outfit." Sara grinned.
"How about you?" Snart set his eyes on Abigail.
"Uh..." Abigail rubbed her arm. "No, I don't feel in the mood to party. Sorry."
"Suit yourself." Leonard waved a hand. "Mick, let's roll."
"Perhaps, Captain Hunter was unclear with his instructions to remain onboard." Gideon spoke up.
"Shut it, metal mouth." Mick ordered the Ai. "You sure you're not coming?" Mick asked Abigail. "The liquor'll be cheap as hell."
"I'm sure, you can Uh, drink enough for the both of us." Abigail told him. Mick grinned. "Yeah, I can do that." He agreed.
"Oh," Snart spun around stopping Jax in his tracks. "You're not ready to run with this crew kid, sorry. The invitation only extended to the lady."
"Wait, so you're just going to leave me here?" Jax asked.
"You've got company." Mick told him. "Least you're not alone."
"I said I'd take care of you." Snart told him the trio walking off.
"Well, well that's just great." Jax complained.
Abigail hummed. "Yeah, that's too bad." She nodded from where she sat. She'd annoyed Rip with all her questions earlier. She decided to keep her mouth shut and watch tv so she didn't do the same to Jax. Even if she wanted to know more about what was going on with him and that old guy.
"You know," Abigail could feel Jax's eyes on her as the guy spoke. "I recognize you."
Abigail laughed lightly. "No way."
"No, seriously, I do. I know you from somewhere." Jax commented as he sat on top of the center console.
"You must be mistaking me for another person."
Jax shook his head. "Can I just..." Jax gestured to her hair as he moved to stand in front of her.
Abigail shrugged, "Sure, I don't really give a damn."
Jax pulled her hair back away from her face again. His mouth dropped open eyes widening as the pieces clicked.
"Holy crap, you're Abigail Evans." Jax realized.
"I- how did-" Abigail jerked out of his hold her hair falling back down around her shoulders.
"I've Uh, had a poster of you on my bedroom wall since I was little." Jax admitted. "Gymnastics is as much of a sport as football, and uh, you did win the gold."
"Yeah, right, I did. Uh, congrats you got it right by the way." Abigail nudged him awakwardly. "I'm Abigail Evans. Best gymnast around or at least I used to be before...uh..." Damnit, it had been so long since she'd met a fan that she'd forgotten how to act around them.
"Yeah," Jax grinned. "I kinda figured."
"It's been a while since anyone's recognized me."
"I know that feeling." Jax nodded memories of recruiters calls stopping, and fading into unpopularity at his school due to his injury. Quarterback no more. The two had a lot in common.
