Just ask

The next day Alex wakes up to a strange noise coming from the kitchen, it sounds like plates. Slowly, she gets up and walks towards the kitchen, carefully looking around. When she's able to look inside the kitchen she looks at him, a thousand questions run through her mind, but no answers to them.

"What are you doing here?" She finally asks.

"Just thought it would be fun meeting for breakfast" Mitch says smiling.

"So breaking into my apartment is fun?" Alex goes to the refrigerator to grab a glass of water.

"Oh Alex come on, I'm just visiting my best friend"  Mitch gets closer to her and closes the refrigerator, making Alex turn around and look at him.

" why?" She isn't asking why he is there, she is asking why is this happening, why is he throwing her under the bus.

"Because I like spending time with you"

"That's not what I mean" Alex pushes him away and opens the refrigerator again.

"Then what do you mean?"

Alex takes a deep breath, closes the refrigerator and takes a sip of her water, then she looks at him for what it feels like and eternity.

"Alex?"

"Why did you contacted Bradley?"

Now is Mitch who takes a deep breath, he looks at the floor, then back at Alex.

"I had to, I need to clean my name"

"If you want your name clean then you shouldn't have messed it up" She walks away to the living room, Mitch following her.

"Where is all of this coming from Alex? Just the other day you called me, said you missed me, we fucking kissed for god's sake"

"Yeah a big fucking mistake if you ask me, just like the times we slept together"

"I'll ask again, where is this coming from?"

"I already told you" she sits down never breaking eye contact.

"Because I called Bradley? Come on..." He walks closer to her, but not to close.

"No, not just because you called Bradley, because you told her I knew what you were doing"

"She told you..." he isn't asking, but before he can keep talking Alex stands up, looking at him in a way she has never done before.

"No she didn't, but that's not the point, why? Why are you throwing me under the bus?"

"Alex she probably doesn't believe me"

"Oh trust me she does" Alex turns around and walks towards the window, everything is so beautiful outside, everything is still running, everything is working, everyone with their own problems, but the world won't stop, it keeps going. Millions of people with their own situations, trying to survive another day, but the world won't stop for them. The difference between those people and Alex Levy is that the world has expectations when it comes to her, and she can't have flaws, she is not suppose to.

Taking a deep breath she turns around to look at Mitch.

"Jason and I are getting a divorce..." she let's out in a breath, hoping not to make Mitch's ego bigger than already is, she is not going to make this about him, but it is.

"A divorce?" Mitch asks surprised, but stops when Alex raises her hand.

" This is not going to look good, if people find out I knew about what you were doing they are going to be really mad, if they find out we slept together... fuck I don't even know" she rubs her forehead with her hand, desperately trying to calm herself.

"I'm sorry"

"That's the only thing you have been saying since everything happened"

"I'm..."

"Just go"

"Alex..." Mitch walks closer but stops just as Alex makes eye contact, she's hurt and he knows it.

"Mitch just get the fuck out"

Mitch sighs but nods, he turns around and starts walking, suddenly he stops and turns to look at Alex, she has tears in her eyes, she looks hurt and for a minute Mitch realizes what he has done, too bad is to late.

On Monday Alex can not feel more exhausted, she hasn't been able to stop thinking about Mitch, Bradley, Jason and all the mess that is her life.

She follows the same routine she has followed for the last fifteen years of her life. As always, at 5am she's in the studio with all that people, she doesn't trust one of them. She know half of them hates her and the other half hates her even more.

'Alex Levy' the door reads, for how long will that be there? The moment she started working at this show she knew it would have an end, but she doesn't want it to be like this.

Alex opens the door and steps inside, taking a moment to look around, to look at every detail, occasionally smiling at some random object that would bring good memories. She stops when she sees a picture of her with Mitch, it was at his birthday party, before the implosion. She grabs the picture and stares at it for a second before throwing it in the trash can besides her.

Suddenly there's a knock at the door, taking a deep breath Alex looks at herself in the mirror.

"Come in"

The door opens and Bradley steps in, 'wonderful' Alex thinks.

"Hi" Bradley smiles closing the door behind her.

"Hi"  Alex doesn't want to sound as dry as she just did but she can't help it.

"Something wrong?" Bradley asks as Alex sits down.

"Oh you know, everything since the allegations against Mitch were made... it's been hard"

"Yeah, about that... do you think there was people covering up for him?"

That's it, Alex can't keep up with her act, she just wants this to be over. "Oh Bradley please just ask what you want to ask and stop doing this"

"Doing what?"

"This thing you've been doing since Mitch contacted you" Alex looks at Bradley and she finds very pleasant the reaction from the woman in front of her.

"I... Alex I'm not even sure I believe him, I have to admit if he had called me when I first arrived here I would have, but now I feel like I know you more and I really don't know him... I'm sorry Alex"

"You already asked me once, do it again"

"What?"

"Come on Bradley, just ask"

Bradley takes a deep breath, yes, she had asked Alex but this is totally different and she doesn't want to hear the answer she fears she will hear.

"Did you know?"

Alex smiles, and Bradley can't help feeling uncomfortable.

"Yes"
