"Letra? What... What are you doing here?" I stutter, my chin beginning to tremble slightly. "How did you get here? When did- Why didn't you-" I tremble. There are questions flying around and appearing in my head faster than I can ask them, and eventually I give up. I just stand and gawk, like a deer in lamplights.
"Sinthuil, I was lost," sobs Letra. She's crying very hard. It confuses me; Letra was never really the emotional type. Do I not know her as well as I thought? Or has something changed? She continues. "I realized how much I miss you, Sinthuil, I miss you terribly!" I want to cry too. I want to sob and throw myself into her arms like a child and to hug her fiercely, but something is wrong. More questions appear in my troubled mind. Has something happened to her family? How could she be lost, when my home is so very far and hidden from Rivendell? I look up at Letra. Her face looks... different. Yes, she looks like herself, but the tears she is so easily shedding and the sobs that she so simply procures...
This is very wrong. "Letra," I begin coolly, "how did you find my home?" My reaction to her performance makes her angry. "Those are alligator tears Letra, we all know that," I say, finally acknowledging my companions. "Why, and quite frankly how, are you here?" I thumb my nose, nervous as to what she might say. I search her eyes; instead of anguish and remembrance, I find only cold emptiness. Her arm twitches, and I suddenly feel a terrible pain in my leg. She turns around and, just like that, she is gone without a trace. Well, except for the tiny dagger sticking out of my leg, just above my knee. Turning around slowly, I look at my friends. "Where is she?" I manage to choke out. Blood surges from the deep wound and  puddles on the wooden floor of my cottage.
I gaze across their faces and see a mixture of shock, anger, and confusion. My lip trembles and the beginnings of tears begin to prick at my eyes. Rushing to the bathroom, I tell them to come inside the cottage. My voice sounds shaky and unlike me. Closing the door behind me, I clatter bottles and containers around until I find the first aid kit. I pour a disinfectant over the wound, surprised at the lack of steam and bubbling. The blade must have been clean. Through tears, I bandage the wound after stemming the blood flow. Great clots have formed around it, and I wipe them away. My clothes are stained with blood, and I begin to change. I only change my underthings when a dizzy spell hits me. I lost so much blood that I feel light headed. Lying against the tub, the gentle dripping of tears from my bloodshot-looking eyes turns into a heavy flow. I bite my finger to try and stay quiet but fail, and I'm almost sure that my companions can hear my strangled sobs. I wrap a towel around myself tightly and wallow in misery.
"Sinthuil?" Comes a gentle voice from the other side of the door. My eyes widen, still watering, and I try to keep my voice even. "Just a m-moment." Shit. A sob has escaped and wriggled its way into my sentence. The door handle begins to turn. Shit! I can't let any of them see me like this; sobbing, shivering, and half naked. I wrap the towel even tighter around my shaking frame and stare at the opening door. Legolas pokes his blond head into the room, and his eyes soften when he sees me in my pitiful state. He shakes his head gently and sits next to me, wrapping his arm around my shoulder. I sniff and take a deep breath, leaning against his warm body. "Shh, it's ok, mellon. It's going to be ok."
For some reason, his gentle and caring words push me over the edge. I break down completely, heavy sobs racking through my body. Legolas holds me closer, petting my hair. I cry and cry, tears streaming down my blotchy and red face until I have no more tears left to shed. I fall asleep, both emotionally and physically exhausted.
