"Kochou." he breathed. While she was annoying, it was good to see her.
He stood there silent, hoping not to speak.
"Well then Tomioka-San. Aren't you going to tell me how you died?" she smiled, patting a spot on the bench next to her, urging him to sit down.
He did so slowly, not facing her. He didn't know how to talk to her, considering that her death had been confirmed. He had to remember however that this was his Second Life, and that nothing on Earth applied here.
"I drowned." he dully replied.
He still didn't look at her, but he knew she had a laughing smile on her face.
"Ara ara Tomioka. That's quite poetic isn't it?" her voice smiled.
He grumbled, his eyes shifting to look at her smiling face. He always found Kochou quite creepy at first, and sadistic even, but he understood her pain. They both had older sisters and they both lost them.
Now they were here, still understanding each other, in their second life.
There was a silence between them, when Shinobu broke it with a question.
"Do you plan on going on the road to the afterlife?" she questioned.
Hi was silent. He didn't know whether he shoals or shouldn't, though it felt like the right thing to do. Most of the other Demon Slayers would have started along that path already, and his job was to protect.
He still could protect.
"I guess." he mumbled. "You?"
Kochou's eyes widened, surprised. "I guess, once I no longer need those crutches. It's most my right leg that is bad." she mused. "Perhaps we could go together, and you could help me."
Giyu was startled at her statement, but remained silent. He didn't know how to respond in a way that wouldn't offend her.
"I'll take your silence as a maybe, Tomioka-San." she smiled.
They sat on the bench, still in silence, looking at the chirping insects and butterflies, sweat dabbing their faces from the extreme heat of the greenhouse.
What Giyu did not realize was that he left his hand on the bench loose, next to him, and Shinobu decided to playfully touch his hand with hers, as a signal that she was still there.
Her touch felt warm and angelic, gentle hands on his rough calloused ones. He leaned back a little, looking up at the sky.
"Sure." he spoke.
"Huh?" Kochou sat up, her arms returning to her side to grip the bench.
"We can go together." he added.
There are people who choose not to take the chance and spend their time tormenting others.
Demons do nothing but lie. They kill and devour others.
Giyu turned to look at the petite woman, and she smirked back, giggling a little.
But will I be able to protect you?

They were an awkward group to be traveling on the road. Giyu still had bandages wrapped around his chest, stomach, and left shoulder, and there was still pain, while Shinobu had sore limbs and a broken leg.
They both stumbled along the dirt path as the pure people watched them, musing to theirselves. Both of their haori's had been repaired and stitched together as good as new, after one had been devoured and the other torn to shreds, and their demon slayer uniforms were washed and pressed. While they looked good as new through there attire, their bodies were still quite frail.
"Tomioka-San." she questioned him, once they had left the village. Giyu had waved goodbye to the mother and child who had helped him once he came.
"Hm?" he answered.
"Do you think my Wisteria poison will be effective on the foes that are in this world?" she asked him.
"I don't know." he mumbled. He had brought his sword as well. Shinobu used a walking stick supporting her right leg, so Giyu was carrying a shoulder bag that had some food and other supplies in it.
"Tomioka-San." she pestered him again. "Why don't you tell me about yourself?" she smiled.
He stopped, eyes widening. He quickly shook his head to wipe the expression off and continued on the path.
"Everything I loved died off in the Final Selection, and I had no one." he coughed out.
"And?" she looked at him.
"There is nothing else you need to know." he finished.
"Oh come on! Tomioka-San, you can't just leave me on a cliffhanger like that! Did someone you love die in the Final Selection? What else happened Tomioka-San. Do you have any siblings?"
Giyu suddenly became aware of the fact that she did not know he too had an older sister.

They were in the forest, and it was getting quite dark out. They decided to stop and make a fire, though the only problem was that it had started raining, dampening all the wood, making it impossible to ignite it.
Shinobu sat down on a rock, looking through the bag Giyu was carrying while he had gone in search of other materials they were buried perhaps a little so that they were still dry.
A shriek came from their camp, and he hurried back, only to see a blazing fire on their pile of wood. The raindrops sizzled and formed steam around them, warming up the air.
Shinobu couldn't help but cry happily. "Tomioka-San! Do you know what this is?" she asked, smiling.
"It's a miracle." he breathed.
"Rengoku." she giggled. "He made it to the after life."
"Huh?"
"A lady told me that once a friend or loved one has finished their path, they can send a sign saying that they are at peace and that they can finally rest." she beamed. "Rengoku sent this to us because he made it!" Shinobu tried to stand and jump even, her smile almost as bright as the fire. She stumbled though, and Giyu quickly ran to catch her.
What he did not expect was to be caught supporting the Insect Pillar in a way as if they were dancing, her arms wrapped around her neck and his on her waist.
"Remember that time you picked me up keeping me under your arm, Tomioka-San?" she smiled.
His expression dulled, remembering how he almost lost an eye if it wasn't for the crow.
