Hitting it off

We really started hitting it off a year later. I was three, he was five. We were best friends. I was more of a tomboy, and we'd play soccer together. All. The. Time. Everyday was some new adventure. There used to be this creek by my old house and we'd go there and play. I was so scared to cross the river. Mainly because I didn't know what was in the forest on the other side, and also because I didn't know how to cross the stones that formed a path in the creek. Hades used to cross that creek all the time. He'd bring me back things like flowers he found and we'd made crowns together. He showed me how to cross the creek, which stones to step on and which stones not to. He held my hand and when we got to the other side we played in the trees. We had this call, five notes, to signal our location. When I got cold he'd give me his junper, and sometimes if we were on adventures we'd hold hands.
I almost fell into the creek once. I stepped on a stone that was slippery and there was a wave approaching me. He told me not to move and used a rope and helped me to the other side. We had a special tree that still has our initials on it, it has a swing that we made from a piece of wood and some rope. We visit it sometimes when we're feeling stressed or sad. We just call each other. We were so close as kids.
