You felt yourself lean slighty to the left, which made you jump back up with wide eyes. You had to take a few seconds to process where you were. You were still in the car, which meant that your mother was still driving and looking around town. What was with you and falling asleep in cars? You looked out the window once more and noticed your mother slowly driving around what appeared to be a school.

"Uh.. mom?" "Oh, you're awake again," Your mother started, hearing your voice. "I know you wont be starting school for a few more days, but I wanted to take some time to see what it looks like!" You grimaced at the sight. It looked like a normal highschool, Though you could only see the front at the moment. It was two stories high and had white, bland walls with a set of big doors standing intimidatingly tall.

There was an empty row between the mountain of windows where letters rested that read in bold letters, "Jefferson High School." "It looks wonderful," Your mother gazed at it while smiling. "Not really, but okay." You leaned back into your seat, not interested in the building anymore. "Oh, don't say that, hun, you might make some new friends for yourself. The town seems nice, so I'm sure the kids here are, too!" Your mother spoke happily.

"Yeah, you might be right. Can we please go looking for a dog park or a pet store or something?" You said, desperate to leave the cursed place. "Oh, I saw about two or three dog parks while driving around. You wanna go look at them?" "Please," you sighed in relief as her car turned onto another street and made it's way to a dog park. You fixed your earbuds back firmly into your ears and decided to keep the music at the same, low volume.

You unlocked your phone at the sound of a notification. You recognized the username as your cousin, Adelaide (sorry if that's your name) had texted for for the first time since you had moved here. You opened up discord, which was the thing she loved to text on the most.

You sighed. Honestly what were you expecting, for her to ask how your day was and how you're liking it so far in the state? Hah, okay. You weren't offended though, it was basically your whole relationship with her.

The conversation continued until your mother tapped your knee. You took one of your earbuds out as your mother told you that she parked and it was time to get out. You texted your cousin you had to go-to which she replied with a not so nice sentence-, and quickly got out of the car. You looked around, immediately taking notice of the tall gates. To you, it looked like an elegant prison. Though, people and dogs both seemed happy as they were playing around inside the wrought iron cage.
