Thanks for 2k reads everybody!!!! I apologize in advance for this one because even I cried writing this :/

The park was swarmed with at least 400 people as Jaren led John to a nearby hill. They laughed noisily, passing people who were making spectacles of themselves, shouting and stumbling due to sheer intoxication.

A green patch of wet grass was at the top of the hill, soon to be squashed by the two boys as they tumbled down. The night sky was dark, stars littered the blackish hue, much like the freckles on Jaren's pale face, John noted.

They settled, reclining comfortably back onto the grass. John held himself up with his elbows, scanning the crowd for familiar faces. Their friends were supposed to meet up with them, after all. Jaren was staring upwards, seemingly observing the stars.

The park had gotten more cramped since their arrival. The 4th of July was truly a brilliant spectacle from the view that the boys had. They were as high up as you could get to see the fireworks. Speaking of, they were supposed to begin the fireworks show in about five minutes.

John checked his phone one last time before finally giving up. He propped his head back, feeling the grass tickle the back of his neck. Jaren smiled as he did this, an all too familiar expression that only John could pinpoint. Jaren had a question for him, he could tell by the way his eyes glimmered with curiosity.

Shuddering from the sight of his brown eyes, or perhaps the cold, John chuckled, "What is it now?"

With a small shake of the head, Jaren replied, "Do you think you'll ever find the right one for you?"

John was taken aback, to say the least. He raised an eyebrow, "Where'd that come from?" he asked, watching Jaren play with the zipper of his jacket. The smaller boy only shrugged, shifting his gaze to that of the stars once more. "Well, I don't know. What about you? Gonna be forever alone like me?"

They chuckled together, John occasionally jabbing his friend in the side with his elbow. Jaren evened out his breathing quickly, never once tearing his eyes from the dim skies. "I reckon I'll find him someday..."

John's eyes widened, registering what his friend had just told him. He cleared his throat, "H-him?"

His reply must have worried Jaren, as his figure had tensed up a bit. It wasn't much, but John could tell that he had been hurt at least a little bit. Jaren furrowed his brows, looking over to John, "Why, you got a problem with it?"

"N-no, I just didn't expect... that." John exclaimed, mixing his words as though he too was drunk, much like the people around them.

"No one ever does..." Jaren murmured, folding his hands together and resting them on his stomach. "Except for Tyler." he let out a gruff laugh, a grin tugging at his lips, "The bastard figured it out in, like, 5 hours."

John snickered, basking in the sounds of Jaren's laughter. It was the sound he had enjoyed most. Something about it just entertained John to no end, that Jaren could find something he did amusing.

As the two sat there, laughter and all, the first firework had shot up into the sky. The crowd below them whistled and cheered at the sight. The glimmers of color hugged their surroundings momentarily before finally fading out. Vibrant blues, followed by deep reds filled the skies like they belonged there.

The loud booming of the gunpowder explosions had long since drained out the sounds of the people around them. Towards the end of the show, John's ears were slightly ringing as people cheered and clapped joyfully.
